howdy
decided to fit my ceramic coated exhaust from ex yellow restoration bike to the red bike.
Its interesting that in two bikes I have pulled the exhaust off neither have had the gasket.

Now, the gasket has a little raised part, I am guessing it doesn't matter if it faces the engine block or the exhaust, but I thought I would ask the brains trust.

Also does anyone know if there is a difference between a Staintune muffler with a rounded reverse cone end vs the more common 'pipe' type end? Performance? Noise?

When I stripped my engine down my exhausts were pigs to release from the heads and neither had an exhaust gasket fitted.

Guys, the gaskets are most likely there. You may need a pic to get them out but I betcha they are there.The split rings will not hold the exhaust in tightly with out them.There just is not enough thread on the standard studs to do the job of holding the header pipe in without the gaskets jm2c

Hi Nigel, I`ve had both types and didn`t notice any real difference in the note.

I`m chasing a staintune RHS (or both sides) spout type in good condition if you happen to know of any kicking about.

Well, once I stuck my head under the bike I found a gasket on the hori cylinder, but not on the vert cyl. Both my pipes have just fallen off once undone!
There is certainly enough thread to tighten the collers on my bike.

I found a number from Staintune and called about the pipes. Both the same, just different ends. He couldn't tell me which one was older, no longer made, but they still make them for 900SS.
There are two types of pipe, one with a 'mechanical ' or restrictive baffle, and the other has a 'filling' in the pipe, which is less restrictive and louder! The filling I guess is like the stuff they use in two stroke pipes, any way if it carbons up too much it can catch fire and reduce its sound absorbtion properties.

I am thinking of turning the 'yelow bike into a lightweight, so I may look at some carbon pipes, so a set of Staintunes may be up for sale at some point.....

So off to the garage to fit with gasket and new coppper nuts

Does anybody know any CAR exhaust gasget what will fit to Paso headers, as original are quite expensive and those car exhaust parts are cheaper allways??? I know, some cars use aluminium "o-ring" gasgets in such places, so need to know what car modell have such in exhaust system..

Its normal, that, when take headers away, those old gasgets stays still in sylinder head "grooves". Such happen to me allways, when i take headers away from my Paso's...
