So - I am looking right at the spot at the rear of the motor where the manual says the engine# should be, and I can see a nice casting location for it, but there's no number there.
This would make me suspicious, if I'd not bought the bike from a close friend who's owned it since it came out of the crate from Italy!
Perhaps there's another location for the number? I presume the case # is the same as the vin #?

Re: 750 sport engine number location?
It's possible that the engine cases have been replaced in the past with new cases.
I believe replacement cases do not have engine numbers stamped on them, the idea being you replace
the cases and transfer the number from the old cases.
Do you have any official documentation ie registration documents to say what the number should be?
The VIN and engine numbers will be different.
Joe

Yes there should be a paper trail for any frame or engine case replacement but only if done through official channels. If it was done privately you will need a bill of sale notorized to get official paperwork.

Re: 750 sport engine number location?
The point is, they have NOT been replaced.
My friend personally took the bike out of the crate when new, and has owned it since new. These are the cases the bike arrived in this country with 20 years ago.
Perhaps there is a different place that is not so visible? I've spent a bunch of time wish a flashlight. If somebody could confirm that their engine # is visible on the rear of the case from the right side of the bike under the rear exhaust port exit, I would appreciate it.

Re: 750 sport engine number location?
I emailed Ducati, and they emailed back with the correct engine number within hours. Nice.
Re: 750 sport engine number location?
UPDATE:
I found the numbers, in a completely different location than the manual says, on the case, on left side, more or less right in front of the kickstart boss.
Welcome to Ducati I guess.

Hi Guys, if you want to find the engine number, simply remove both side fairings below the seat and it’s right under the rear exhaust header pipe. Simple
Re: 750 sport engine number location?
Not on my 900, on my 750 yes, but where the number is on the 750, nothing on the 900.
