does anyone know the extra litres, when filling, between side stand and centre stand?

I don't know the exact difference, but it's qite a bit. I filled my tank to the brim with the bike on the centre stand on the way to get it MOT'd a couple of years ago. I arrived at the garage and parked the bike in the bay. A couple of minutes later when the mechanic came to examine the bike, there was a pool of petrol under it. I recon the pressure must have built up inside the tank and spewed the petrol out of the breather. Since then, I fill the bike with it parked on the sidestand and I've had no further occurences.

When filling up with petrol always try and use the centre stand. My bike like so many others I'd imagine leaks like a sieve when filled up on the side stand!
With fuel at nearly£6 per gallon it's like pouring cash down the drain

I always fill on the side stand, I don't understand why yours leaks.
Where does it leak from?

If I knew where it leaked from I'd do something about it!
If I fill it past 3/4 full on the sidestand it is pouring over the petrol station floor by the time I have paid! Setting the bike up straight stops the leak!
In truth I am too lazy to take the tank off and have a look!

If it is leaking only on the sidestand the first thing i would look is the drain from the gas cap (item #45).

Rogero - did I do my math right on your 6 pounds per gallon which is .6514 = $1 which would be $9.21 US per gallon? We pay $3.19 US a gallon for Premium (92 Octane) or $2.99 (89 Octane) for Regular grade here in the state of Washington. That would be $175 to fill up my BMW 528i! Please tell me I am wrong!

that may be correct. Here 1l fuel is 1,40 Euros. 1 gallon is 4,4l and €1,40 is $1.78 so a gallon costs $7.80.

ok,
I did the test when filling on Sunday en route to my first DOCV ride. but thats another story, but there were 2 907s!!! Claude joined me , any way I will post some pics later...
anyway its approx 1.2 lt difference filling on side stand to centre stand.
I filled it to the base of the rubber gasket on its side and then to the same level when on the centre stand.
FWIW fuel in Melb is AUD $1.30 for 98 octane, has been as high as AUD$1.70.
Its amazing how prices go up when we are using the oil already in stock, but just never come down the same.....
I refuse to buy Mobil after seeing what they after the valdez spill. It must be hard to have any faith in the US legal system, the compensation in the end was a disgrace. I wonder what will happen with the latest spill in the Gulf. Now stepping down off my soap box
