I have a startmotor of a ST2 laying around and want to check it, do the mod of earthing the - brush by a decent cable.
just need to be sure that they are the same. so I can swap the starter motors in one action.

I think, that if mechanical measurements are same, then You can use it. There cant be big difference with needeed current, so that electrical part you can forget. I havent look mine closer, but i quess, they are exact samekind, maybe from another manuafacturer, but that is not problem at all.... :smoke:

Hi Annti,

I knew you would post a reply. To be honest, I saw an article about startmotors where the writer changed the standard starter, which contains 2 brushes into 4 brushes. this doubles the torq of the starter and has a dramatic improvement on the starting of the big twins. That's what I aiming for.

Not so easy, been looking into that, too. Lotsa modding of the brusher plate etc.
Do you have a link?

I also think the st motor works. Different gearing on some newer but think that is f 4V.
IIRC....

Hi tamburinifan,

it seems that there is a possibility to use a brush plate with already 4 brushes.
not every 4-brush plate will fit. some brush plates have the spring to far out, causing short cicuit.

so far I'vent any links to some articles about this subject sofar.

Friend of mine tried to adapt similar 4 brushes to st engine, no luck.

I bought one, too. Sould give more ooomphh f starter
but not so easy to do even if that was almost the same.

But I´m listening.... ;)

Bertus, there is no need to replace the starter motor, just fit a deka battery...that will kick the paso into life...if it still hesitates to start then fit heavier cables...nothing wrong with original starter
