since '92 I have replaced many batteries on the paso, usually I bought a yausa (same as original) but was never happy with them, in early '07 I purchased a Deka EXT16 275cca, this is a sealed battery and used often with harleys...although I've neglected it...it has never let me down and came to the conclusion that next time I wouldn't buy anything else but a Deka...has anybody else tried this battery on their bike?

I have just now very bad experiencies about YUASA battery in my ST2, as its more expensive and least ONLY 2 summers with very good maintain... Ok, this was ST2 battery, but anyway i dont buy anymore Yuasa battery, as also cheap ones least same 2 years. I am electrician and i really know, how to maintain batteries....

Odyssey gel cell batteries are very good. I have one in my ST4s and I also put one in my ST2 before I sold it. A very solid battery. A little more expensive, but rock solid. The Sport has some other brand battery, and is very kind to batteries, but when it goes, I'll put in the Odyssey battery. The early ST2 has a questionable charging system, and benefits from a tolerant battery.

Cheers,

Just my personal experience, but I have had issues with the gel cell type batteries. Much better luck with the Glass Mat type.

I have Deka.

I read that gell batteries don't like being overcharged or completly discharged either, so a AGM,absorbed glass mat, is far more robust/strong.

The odessy site has more info

Dekka is glass mat,Odyssey is gel. Gel you need to be very cautious on charging/discharging. Glass mat is a lot more forgiving.

thanks for the explanation higgy, as I mentioned before due to my circumstance I neglected this battery, but its still fine, had it been a yausa it would of been dead long ago.

Got mine from these guys
http://stores.ebay.com/Pascos-Crank-and-Charge

Also worth mentioning except for the 1st year ST2 all ST models are 3 phase stators, no Paso's came with or can easily be made 3 phase, cases and crank would have to be changed out or you would have to find someone willing to try a 3 phase wrap of the stator, nearly impossible to do. nearly all 3 phase stators spin the magnet around the outside of the stator due to the negative effects of hysterisis
