Lovely bike Hamish, Good Luck with the Vin - I take it that it's just a routine procedure?. After what you have been through, you are a mighty inspiration for us all - will be thinking of you out riding. :)
Best Regards
Chris

vin is a vehicle identification number , and because its been off the road for so long ( sinse 93 )and the PO had deregistered it , it has to be issued with a new #.
It now has an all Dyna ignition

and an all electronic charging

I guessed that must be it - they do the same over here but I hear it's about to change. I have a dormant classic that's 'outside the system' at the moment... ;) Re: VIN I did a great deal of the paperwork/drgs getting the AC Cobra Mk IIII Type Approved for the UK in the early '90's - there were quite a few 'grey' areas that got.. 'massaged' shall we say..

It wasnt so bad . I had to take it to a mechanic and get a "brake inspection " cert .He measured the disc/drum thickness and runout, made sure nothing was worn past service limits and that it was a suitable setup for the bike ( it has a honda master cylinder......... dont ask me , it was there when I got it , and non standard braided hoses ). And I had to prove I hadnt stolen it , seeing as I had no connection to the last registered owner ( apparently he topped himself )I got a cert from the police to say it was not " a vehicle of interest " . From there it goes thru a reg ( 6 monthly ) safety check, gets a vin plate rivoted to the frame and then I PAY heaps and ride off into the sunset
