ignition switch

There's a vendor selling a new ignition switch stating it is for the 750 Paso, 900s and 851.

I know they were concurrent models, but were the ignition switches the same on the 900s and 851 as on the Paso?

nice photos.
I had an ignition switch from an SS once and it did not fit on the Paso.

I put a Paso switch in my Sport. It plugged into the wiring fine, and fit to the bolts on the top triple clamp, but the fork lock feature wasn't long enough to reach the tab on the frame to lock the forks. (no big deal for me). First year 851 used M1R forks, and had a top triple that almost matches the 750, but 3mm more offset, and the ignition switch hole is the same place as the Sport.

The 900ss he may be referring to is the one from 1990 that had very limited distribution, and looks like my avatar. Same as the 750 Sport, but with a 900 motor, 17 inch wheels and bigger brakes.

Cheers,

Ok, that makes sense. The 750ss, 900ss def. does not fit.

PO of my bike put a Zadi (Guzzi, Augusta) switch which doesn't quite reach the top of the triple.
It's a set, so same key for the ignition, seat, helmet, but I'd rather have an original.

Actually, if anyone is interested in the Zadi for another bike let me know.

Ciao

the ignition switch may be an original one (taken from another Paso) as there are two ignition switches that differ in length. Yours may have come from a 907ie.

Not sure. The one on the bike now is a complete set - seat and helmet and the tab where the key is inserted is red
on the ignition switch, seat and helmet lock. I know the 750 Paso didn't have this red tab.

I'm not in Germany now so I can't take a photo, but below is a photo of the new switch the vendor has.

Ducati changed around a lot of things on the Paso and Sport. They were short on money, and sometimes bikes got built with whatever components that the suppliers would ship them. The lock set you have may quite well be original, but maybe not to your bike.

With the different ignition switches, is it possible that the bosses on the backside of the triple clamps were different heights? I'm wondering if changing your triple clamp might be a faster simpler change?

Cheers,

I doubt this is original but we'll see.

To the admins - my question was regarding the Paso 750.
Not sure why the thread was moved to the 750 Sport section.

Vendor: "It fits on the paso, and the old type 851 with the marzocchi frontfork (not the newer type with the up side down fork)"

So, looks like maybe it's for the Paso and 851 after all.

According to many vendors carbon clutch covers fit all Ducs with dry clutch. Noone could explain me though how to fit one on a Paso, 750S, F1 or early 750SS
Maybe he is right but generally one needs to be careful about what people say specially on ebay.

G.

PS: I don`t know why your post was moved but as you wished I moved it here again.

By now, we all know how much our bikes can be different each other.
My two 907s have different switches, both stock, and they have different keys          .
I have had many troubles to reach the lock position on the switch of my black 907.
On the red one I have to press the key, not on the black one.
So, definitely, the switches for Marzocchi forks (Paso, 851, 907 etc.) are not the same.
They have different length, different keys, etc.
Ciao

Cheers,

I remember the brochure with the Paso, 851, 750s and 900s (or ss?)

Was it really SS? Thought those came later.

But the 900 I remember looked a little different than the 750.

900SS is the correct way to refer to both models. What most of us call a 1990 900 Sport was actually called a 900 SS.
Very confusing from the whole SS series that followed the year later, 1991, and ran till 1998.

The biggest differentiator is the year.
