I have a 91 907ie and the starter seems to only engage for about 2 revolutions before it cuts out the starter keeps spinning but the engine doesn't what could the problem be?

Also how do you test to see if ignition coils are bad (ohm resistance etc)?

G. is mentioning one possible cause.
the other can be that the starter turns to slow due to loss of voltage.
this can be caused by worn brushes, bad contacts.
also about this can be found on the forum.

The 907 has most of the "fix's for electrical issues as is.
But the only fix for the passage of time is maintenance

Clean those grounds and connectors. You will have far fewer issues

and disconnect the clock ( orange wire) as the clock drains the battery rapidly.

Oh , you actually had to disconnect your clock :?: :!: I thought they all crapped out long before the battery had a chance to go flat

under the seat there are 4 fuses, remove 2nd (from right) and clock will be disabled.
I remove the fuse during winter.

I think you guys with clock problems are missing something deeper.

My bike gets ridden only every few weeks at the moment with periods of up to a month without a start. The battery has never discharged to a degree where the bike wouldnt start. Perhaps its time to look further into this mystery that affects bikes in the Northern Hemisphere.

It has been my experience with my 907 if the idle is too low,low enough to get a flickering charge light at idle the charge on the battery lets the clock draw it down to no start in about two weeks.

I remove the fuse every time I stop the bike.
Why do spoil the battery?
