Drinking and eBay...

I don't think I told you guys about my little "mishap" while drinking and surfing eBay back in August....

I was up at night, drinking....drinking quite a bit....and I was bored and surfing eBay. I often go looking at the 90's sportbikes of the Japanese Big-Four manufacturers, especially the early GSXR bikes. My wife's favorite most beloved bike was a '93 GSXR-750 and she still has a '94 GSXR-750, so I occasionally have the thought of getting one from the same era so we can go riding our "Old School" GSXRs around.

The pickings (choices) among eBay for older sportbikes has not had many good examples at reasonable prices, so when I ran across this 1996 GSXR-1100 that hadn't been repainted or polished or chromed, I figured it would be a nice bike to ride alongside with my wife on her GSXR.

The bidding was only up to $1200 and there were three days left, so I placed a bid and met the reserve to the exact penny. I figured it would be a good price for the bike, but with three days left in the auction, surely SOMEONE would make a single bid to win it from me, so I didn't worry about it...

Three days later, while at work, I decided to watch the auction to its close to see what the bike would go for. Five minutes to go, and I was still the high bidder...Three minutes to go, and I'm still the high bidder....One minute to go and I'm STILL the high bidder....At this time I start thinking "Oh crap!" what did I do? I don't have room for the bike and I really don't know how I will arrange picking it up almost 600 miles from home!".....30 seconds.....20 seconds.....10...9...8...7...6...5...4..3...2...1...."DAMN!"...

I wind up renting a truck, driving over 1100 miles round-trip in a single day, and bring this thing home...

Turns out to be in fairly decent shape, runs really well, and has a full Yoshimura race exhaust system and K&N pod filters. The bike, rental truck, gas, and a few odds and ends to get it road-worthy, and I still don't even have $2000 in it, yet. It's been a pretty fun bike, and I've already run it up over 150 mph. :mrgreen:

It is a good bike, I have one from 93 till 96 with some Yoshi cams and can's + FCR41. I made 38000km on it and change only Öl and fill Gas.

And there are never to much Bikes in the Garage

Oh no, it's catching.
There is a certain attraction to these big GSX slab motors. Here's my GSX1200Y.

It's a 1998 model, although it has '80s bare bones styling. Powerful without being outrageous (100hp/75kW) but heaps of torque and crazy acceleration. All your basic good stuff.

Jeez, ya scared me, thought I was going to hear some story of how you paid 8g for a tricolore 907 :roll: :roll: :lol: :lol:

I picked up my second 906 for 3 hundred in a similar situation(less the assahol :mrgreen:)

It was on a mountain top in New Hampshire 600+ miles away also done in 1 day.

It has kept many Paso's all over the world on the road and out of the scrape bin :thumbup:

The gsxr's are great bikes :thumbup: My nephew has one I plan to make a track bike out of at the end of the

summer, a 1000 with low miles and lots of goodies :choo:

G there are 100's of tracks both public and private all over the US :beer: :beer: :beer:

and many lonely unpatrolled highways and byways especially in the southwest :twisted:

My wife is just glad it wasn't one of the Bimota motorcycles I keep watching. I'm itching really badly for a Bimota YB-11. I'm trying to talk myself into one of those or possibly a DB-5R when I graduate with this masters degree in late August.

No worries No worries I think you did yourself damn good even if I can't help but point out the obvious Italian design influence :thumbup:
