On my 3 day weekend trip in the dolomities ( my first big turn on my 907) the starter give up working on the first day.
Me and my friend had to push the bike to start at every stop. That doesnt look good when there are a lot of people around
but most of them quited with a smile.
I also saw 2 other 906 that weekend, both on Saturday.
But what is the problem ? Starter is running and makes bad noise in the crankcase.
Is it the starter freerun ?
If yes, where can i get one ?
Is it easy to change ?
Help needed to get the bike back on the road.

Sounds like the sprag is toast. It`s avaliable from most Duc shops.
Some info where to look:

Do not engage starter more, that just grinds the damaged parts further.

The sprag can usually be repaired for nothing by shortening the retaining spring:

I've done it on a couple of bikes with 100% success.

The sprag clutch can be the cullprit, but also a bad battery and or bad connections or corroding. this reduces the power available to the starter motor and therefore the number of revolutions the starter motor can make,
which reduces the working of the sprag clutch

Many thank´s for the fast help. I started digging for the freerun. My battery is new and loaded and the contacts are good.
Shouldn´t be a big deal to get this done.
If there are still other ideas please let me know.

Steffen, I sent you an email a few days ago.
There´s no direct connection but if you change the starter sprag you may also want to check the condition of your starter brushes or your last experiences could repeat themselves one day.

After demounting the flywheel the complete starter sprag felt apart. The spring that holds everything together
was open. So i think this was the mistake. I shortened the spring and mounted everything in the right way.
Now it looks good and the sprag seems to work fine. I have to buy all the gaskets to take the engine back together. Also at the gear changer there is a broken spring that has to be replaced.
When the engine is running again I will let you all know.
The manuals that were posted worked fine. Perfekt HELP !!!
