I'm still very much reading this, but my build is held up for the time being while I do a bit of relocation of Italian bikes in the garage, and let funds recover I think it's kind of part of the Social Media world we live in now, where it's easier to click a 'like' button than actually type a response. Guilty as charged - I'll stop being so lazy and actually write something

Thanks! I'm here. :^) I start my day with this site everyday since I bought my '87 paso in 2009. I am just watching and learning. I'm still a novice, but I ride the Paso every week, and do the proper maintenance and detailing. I leave the difficult stuff for pros like LG Moto and Nichols Engineering in the SF Bay area. Your work is exciting and compelling to study and so informational/educational for me. I learn so much from your documentation. It means a great deal to me and I am very appreciative and grateful. Anyhow, thanks guys.

It's good to know someone is reading these and Hwy's pages. I know when I need to find some info that it's nice to be able to read other peoples experiences and especially when they add photos so we can see how they went about it.

Hopefully this and other peoples posts will help present and future owners who might strike problems along the way.

I also checked the steering head tension today. I found another little surprise while I had the fairing off. I'll post the photos tomorrow

It's back on the lift to try and find what the clunking noise is that's coming from the front end.

Off with the fairing again.


That's when I noticed this on the lift.


So where's that coming from.

I still don't like the way that's attached. Do you think there should be a locking tab that can be bent over the nut on there?.

It's looking like it's either the gear change shaft.

I'll give her a wash while the fairing's off and keep an eye on it.

Off the bike lift and check the steering head bearings.

Disconnect the steering damper.


I must remember to do that back up

And the top triple clamp bolts.


And the result was...it was a little tight. Mmmmmmm.

I actually backed it off a bit.



I'm starting to wonder if it's the floating discs now. It doesn't sound like a rattle though, more a clunk. The battery seems secure enough to not be moving. I'll see what tomorrows ride brings and report back. Hopefully it will show me where the oil leak is coming from as well.

The strange thing is it's handling like a dream. No weaves or wallows. She tracks as straight as an arrow whether through sweepers or in a straight line.

I went for another ride with my other historic club yesterday. The Sport handled well enough but still had clunk over sharp bumps.

I'm wondering if it might be the steering damper moving around on the heim joint.

Other than fork internals I can't see anything else that could be causing it. I think I'll just ride the thing. I'm sure I'll figure it out...one way or another .

I gave her a quick wash before I went out for a ride. Something I don't normally do.

Hi mate, I'm not sure if the 750 is the same as mine but a oil leak around that area could be from the clutch push rod thing , have a butchers at this pic, mine is from a previous post, the bit of of rag bashed in there is just so I can start up to show off to a mate at this stage, but an easy fix, bikes looking fantastic and it sounds like everything is working out pretty good.

I've been pressed for time myself lately and being a bit slack at responding to stuff, I think you said it all with the front end feels a touch off but she still handles beautifully. The thing is these pantah engined bikes are so good and so mysterious we have to keep them on the road.
