Make sure the brake pads are not juggling about in the caliper, my R80 had a clunk over sharp bumps and it was the pads . Put a finger on the brake lever and see if the noise goes away
Could also be the forks topping out (R80 did that too )

I tried that by riding with the brakes slightly on and it still did it.

I considered the forks topping out but it's doing it on much smaller bumps than those that would top the forks out. The fork tubes are pitted and I cleaned them up with some wet and dry until I can get them rechromed and expected them to leak badly but they're hardly weeping at all so I'm wondering if there's very little oil in them. Saying that though, they aren't pogoing like you would expect from forks with no damping. Maybe it's just a noisy front end . I'ts not stopping me riding it. It's just like that annoying rattle in your car that you have to find .

Try removing the front guard (fender) and ride over an area where you typically get the dreaded clunking noise. I experienced a similar clunking noise when hitting the occasional bumps... I found the front guard flexes easily and judging from wear marks hits at the lower aspect on the each fork leg. Note I achieved similar quietening results if I added a thin rubber pad between the guard and the fork leg.

I'll have a look this week as we're expecting a bit of rain so I should have some quality shed time .

I haven't done a lot to the Sport lately but I did add some new mirrors. I did want to replace the Napolean mirror with another new pair but at $90 each it seemed a bit expensive for now.


We have had a lot of rain lately and I can't get the bike out of the garage so as yet they are untested. You can see how wet the back yard is in this photo.

The mirrors look good and should be a pretty stable view I guess, I'm not sure if the original setup mirrors are vibratey or not as not really having that experience yet, looks like you won't need to water ya lawn for a while, the bikes looking sweet.

I didn't get the original mirrors with the bike. I'm not even sure what they look like but these will have to do for now. How's your bike coming along?.

Cheers Andrew, I got the 89 back and all sing and dance no problems mechanically, sadly mum slipped away a few days ago so nothing's happening on the bike for a little while.

Yeah good now mate, been a tough couple years but I'm no orphan there.Im in my shed now working on how to get into this painting, preferably I'd do it in summer but it's gone on too long and now I'm expecting to be called in for 2 x shoulder surgery! Delayed by covid and hospital overloaded stuff. I'd like to do it before the surgery plus I'm in the process of purchasing my new toy which I don't want extra dust and overspray on .And this one won't fit in the loungeroom waha.
