a couple of years ago i had this idea in my head after reading a few posts stating that the induction pressure fluctuation and or resonance in the air box caused some glitches at cartain revs by feeding too much info into the p7, and some bright spark came up with the cigarette butt idea to minimize this problem.
i just soldered some copper capillary tube to a small refrigerant strainer and connected two small 3/16 copper ends to the capillary which is the same size as the pressure sensor tube connectors and reconnected this gadget with the rubber tube and small cable ties, the top capillary tube is 1.2mm and the bottom 1mm in dia. see pic




this gadget acts as a muffler and should smoothen things out from any fluctuation, but still giving the correct absolute atmospheric air pressure from inside the air box...i didnt try it out as yet

Looks more complex....and expensive than a Ciggy Butt though.

the strainer body was gratis from my parts supplier, and the rest are leftovers from jobs, copper is easy to work with 20min to solder and shape, another 20min to install...so it didnt cost me anything, the other way to do it would be a small plastic fuel filter body and get a longer hose

im happy with the way the motor runs now, very smooth, but the s/steel headers are now getting signs of discoloration since i installed the FBF stage one chip (running too lean) the FIM chip which came with the staintune system never caused this problem in 18yrs and i believe has more grunt, the only problem was the jerky behaviour at low revs which was annoying
if this gadget makes things better, that would be a big bonus...if not, 20grms extra weight wont hurt

crackin bit of work there.
I had Brad the Bike boy look at that FBF chip. He found it to be a lot richer and more advanced at lower evs and the same as the FIM in the higher rev range.

My bike runs even smoother now and was much improved at low revs with that chip, just better all round.

Just got mine back a while back after he fixed the barrel oil leaks, $$$$, but hardly done any riding.

hi Nige,
im still in and out of courts and busy working to pay for legal fees but i can see the light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully not a train...

im going to do a few things to the bike...braided lines, new chain, sprockets, shimming, oil...mabe replacing the gold plated bolts with anodised titanium ones
when all finished i want to try the fim chip and do a dyno run to compare power, air/fuel ratio etc...its only money...easy comes easy goes

I too haven't been doing any riding for a long while...hopefully things will change soon

Well, as you two are heading for spring and summer, it should be no problem. Here autumn and winter are approaching way too fast.
Temps in AUS are better any way . . . . so hit the tarmac both of you!

What sort of stuff is inside the filter, I was just thinkin that being designed for refrigeration the filter medium wont be expected to cope with moisture and ... well that thing of yours may work better or worse depending on humidity ( or even worse and worser) Mmmmm Im also wondering about the length and diameter of those capillery coils and thier resonant frequency ... Ha ha , tell ya what tho , I had to see the irony tho ..... your pix of this invention ...... and your avitar

its not a filter/drier, for all the refrigeration mechanics out there no silica gell inside, its a small strainer with just a wire netting inside, i think used with air conditioners where moisture is not a problem
