another planet, another paso 906

Post by nnnnnnorman »

hi there its nnnnnnorman and i just last week got my grubby hands on another 906! first registered in august 1989 it has only 7,300 miles on the UK (mph) clocks. i am awaiting new belts to arrive before i fire the bike up. the bike has pirelli low profile tyres fitted. are they the original tyres from new? they look similar to the michelins that were used. i have a new battery so hope the bike will require fuel, oil and fluids and fire up. it was last ridden 3 years ago but lightly used as the previous owner found it too heavy for his little legs. the bike is red over white with the faded red, now orange, seat. frame number 000774 engine number 001073. can anybody tell me if it is a genuine uk bike? i find it hard to comprehend how a twentyfour year old bike can have its original tyres and only covered 7000 odd miles? any other advice on putting this bike back on the road is welcome. I intend to get it MOT tested and back on the road. :)

The Pirelli were the first tires built for the Paso (and the very few bikes which used to have such damned tires) and the first which were not anymore built.
Later, Michelin made the A/M 59X which were built until 2004 about (if I well remember).

Probably, since the bike has only 7k miles, they could be the first original tires. I wonder...

About the nation, it's really hard to say if she's an UK bike or she was imported.
I don't think that at the Ducati factory they have such register, but the fact she's got the mp/h odometer could mean she's.

Some bike was built for the USA market and later imported in Europe.
Those bikes have a metal plate with the frame number welded on the steering tube.
So, the frame number (in a different way) is engraved both directly on the steering tube and on the plate welded on it.
If your bike has that plate number welded on the steering tube could be an USA bike imported in UK.
Besides, they have the taillight full red (not with the orange turn indicators) and separated conventional rear indicators.
Finally, the USA bikes used to have some reflectors on the fork and on the rear fairings.

Let us know

Mine doesn`t and it`s a California bike.

Good to hear of another Paso in the community nnnnnnnnorman. Maybe meet you with it at Brighton in September as we nearly did a couple of years back. Cheers Keith.

Hi Norman
Was on 851 but struggled with neck angle a little so back on the Monster/Supercity for now. When I saw your thread title I thought you also had 'another' Cagiva 125 also! (I have 2 1/2 Planets - would you like one? :))
I must tip you off when I go to Bury this year so we can finally meet - a few of us are planning to go to Brighton this coming Monday - let me know if this appeals.
Regards
Chris

P.S. - It's 50 year celebration of the Lancia Fulvia Track Day this Saturday at Goodwood if you fancy it?
