What can I say, except this bike is starting to drive me bonkers!

Thought a ride around town would do me and the bike the world of good. It was either that, or oil the back deck, so there wasn't much of an arguement. Rolled B1 out of the shed, connected up the battery, let the fuel pump prime the lines for a bit. hit the start button. There was bit of a grinding noise, but she started. Off we go, out to the usual places and back. Took about an hour. Rolled back into the drive, turned it all off. Opened the shed, went back, hit the starter and,......., nothing. A lot of wrrrrr, but no grrrrr. Oh Gee Wiz, I said, that doesn't sound very good (well, words to that effect). Hit the button again, same result. Gee Wiz etc, except with a little more force. Hit the button again, same result. A few more choice words, which once upon a time the kids would have called "Lawnmower language" still had no result. Give up and push B1 back into the shed, point out to B1 that yes, there is now a B2 in the same shed, and it behaves itself, and why can't she? A few more choice words describing her parentage, her current worth, value and ability to drive a man completely nuts.

So it appears the Sprag clutch has given up. Battery volts are still good, though I will put the tester from work on it to make sure. Trolling through previous posts, the things I will need to get B1 back mobile are:

KTM Free Wheel (Sprag) KTM Part No: 5844002600
Ducati Starter motor Brush kit, Duc Part No: 067050815
Alternator Cover Gasket, Duc Part No: 78810051A
A SKF 19778 Oil Seal (for the spring).

Anything I might have missed?

If it's just the sprag, you could try just the oil seal spring first.
I'd recommend a fresh sprag.
Do check surfaces the sprag grips onto, grooves on any
of those will make problems reoccur soon.
Make sure it grips before reassembly cover etc,
a few secs won't hurt anything.

Now your starting to get it .... Its old (ish ) and Italian .... what did you expect the thing is Nick that eventually you will sort all the foibles it was born with and the ones it developes along the way and then you will have something truly worth having , and doing the work yourself is therapeutic , harder for some than others but still satisfying in the end..... DONT GIVE UP

Mate, B1 has nothing on an old bit of equipment we had at work a few years back. Designed and built in the land of royalty,cricket and The Thames in the 60's. 16 screws to hold a 4" square plate on. More oil leaks than you could poke a stick at. But pure class when it came to how it was put together. B1 may be old and cranky,but all it will take is a bit of time and patience. And it still looks as good as the first time I ever saw one, 20 odd years ago!
