I'd say GT will need to lower their prices.

troy at gowanlochs told me that they ordered golden tyres, as they had done before, and received shinkos. same supplier. I assumed it was just shinko taking over the naming of production.

I think the 003 used to be the yokohama tyre as used in the proddie class here on rgv, etc. one of them was anyway.

I got an email from Shinko Germany a few weeks back informing that they have received a shipment. The tires have EU certification and who orders from them will also get a certificate from them if required. That will be interesting for who`s in Germany as you`ll need that for the TÜV. Furthermore they confirmed that Goldentire and GoldenBoy (which I never heard of) are Shinko. Shinko is the main manufacturer (hence the almost identical thread designs) and Goldentire is just a brand used as distribution channel.

Has anyone yet found a supplier for these in the UK? And at a price similar to the US price of $96 Front/ $110 Rear?

Shouldn't the TUV have this info already? At least on GoldenTire?

Plus, why would they care about the brand anyway if the size is correct?
I don't remember anyone checking the brand on my cars, only the size and condition.

They should (if it`s an ABE/TÜV Gutachten) but it`s always good to come prepaired.

They do care if your vehicle documents show a "Reifenbindung" which means that not only the legal tire sizes are listed but also the brand. On the documents of my Paso it says specifcally "Michelin A59X size ... front and Michelin M59X size ... rear".
Some old cars have that, too for example if only certain TRX tires are allowed.
In case you want to use different tires you need to have this approved and changed in your papers. That´s how it is here in Germany.

Shinko's are up on Ebay.de also (same dealer)

Off ebay, prices are: 109eur front, 129eur rear = 238 eur set ($327)

Close to double the price in the US.

I like the looks of the PIRELLI DIABLO's. Those would look nice on the Paso.
Anyone knows someone at Pirelli?

SO glad I found this thread! I was just about to drop $200 on a set of wheels with tires. I was so afraid the tires would be hard as a rock, even though they had lots of tread on them. The front on my Paso now was always dry rotted but if finally cracked all the way through and is trash

Chaparral ships their tires without any packaging whatsoever.
Mine were also thrown by FEDEX across the front stairs - found them under the snow.
Chaparral agreed to pay for the return shipping.

Pity they can't throw a few cents of packaging around the tires. It would be a smarter investment.

Bikebandit promised they ship theirs wrapped.

Has anyone bought from them?

I just received my new set of Shinko's from Chapparal; total cost was $187 as they are on sale and shipping was free on orders over $100 (is anything really free??). The tires were shipped bound together with packing tape, not in a box, but they arrived in good condition regardless. I am amazed still that new tires are available for us and I am anxious to have them mounted. But with winter only halfway through here, it will be a while before I get around to that and actually riding on them.

I plan to give my old Michelen's a proper retirement I just haven' figured out yet what that will be. Perhaps a small shrine in the corner of my workshop.

???

I've recieved lots of tires over the years, and none of them were ever boxed. I can't even think of a reason why they would be.

BTW, I've got a thousand or so miles on my Golden Tyres so far, and have been quite pleased with them.

They don't need to be boxed but they should be shrinkwrapped at least.
Being thrown around UPS/Fedex vans and storage facilities could damage them.

Bikebandit will match Chaparral's price.

I hadn't bought from either of these places before, but I'd rather buy from a company I'd like to do biz with again.
Chaparral wasn't interested in the fact the tires were just thrown into the snow.

Turns out the reason that happened is because they shipped them without sig. required.
Nor did they notify me about the tracking number or when they were shipped.

Their online order status was useless - showed 'being processed' for a week after they were delivered.
Online return facility wouldn't work, even with the RMA their own staff provided.

Eventually they got around to mailing the UPS label.

Completely wasteful. Investing the minimal amount it takes to shrinkwrap them
and ship them signature required so they aren't thrown on the front steps
would have been a smarter choice.

So far Bikebandit has responded to emails within minutes and matched Chaparral's price
immediately and the offer was available in the online account for 7 days.

Will see how they ship them, but seems like a better company than Chaparral.
