rescued duck ready for spring

Post by jrwizbang »

thought I would post some pics of the 906 I rescued from the parts bin. this old girl was about to be parted out when I found it and after some hard work I think its ready to ride. It got new rubber, a new starter, a thorough dis-assembly and much fairing repair and a whole lot of gunk and rust removal. couldn't find replacement mirrors for less than my mortgage so I improvised a fiberglass mounting plate to fill the void and used some cheapo mirrors for now. Not in love with the mirrors I chose but I'm pretty pleased with the mounting concept.

Great rescue!! I just picked up a 90 906 from a college kid yesterday and she has a blue (lighter metallic) tank with black fairings. LOL Any idea how I can determine which was the actual stock color?

there were no black 906s so the blue is probably its original colour. (was that bike crashed in the past ?)

I did a VIN check and nothing came up insurance (total or claim) wise. When I looked her over (before trading), the frame, forks and everything looked straight...she drove straight and nothing seemed warped (rims, rotors). She fired right up and sounded terrific (Staintune pipes)......though I did notice she has full foating discs on the front, which look a bit bigger than the stockies I see in pics.....yet, retains the stock calipers, so I will be looking into that. The bottom center stand was bent a bit, which I already took off and plan on fixing as I tear her down for paint. The electronocs seem to be all there and everything works.....even has the "passing" flasher on the left handle bar.....which I havent seen since my 1985 Yamaha FJ1100 Euro model. She has the European rear tail light but the speedo is in mph.....so was that an option or did someone intentionally replace it? Overall after some degreasing, a bit of polishing (swingarm seems to have acid marks on it) and a fresh coat of paint.....I think it will be a rather successful save.
I was researching paint and codes and saw the LECHLER codes you posted in another post....which helped a lot, danke....though the only place I found online that sells the Metallic Blue is a place in England. Just wondering if anyone here has run across a place stateside that might sell that particular mixture.

Thanks again.

A good paint shop should be able to mix up a brew ( and put it in an aerosol can if you want )Of all the colours the Paso came in I liked the blue the least................dunno why just doesn't seem to match the style ......for me anyhow , I had a VFR that I painted Ford Galaxy Blue , which aint so different .... go figure

I was initially planning on blue but I mean it IS a Ducati and traditionally they are red. LOL

Mines a real dark blue. That, and black look good but red looks best.

The dark blue is original.

Although I do prefer the red I'm not sure why that has to be "the" colour, considering if you Go back through Ducatis history there are some classic/iconic bikes that were orange, silver, yellow, silver/blue to name a couple.

Well and unfortunate update to my 906 project. Got her titled and insured and on the way in to town.....shop class of all places.....when she caught fire and burned the rear right side (panel and taillight, battery box, battery, rear fender and wiring harness). Sucked as I didnt have a fire extinguisher of any sort and did my best with gloves and reflective vest to tamp it out as bypassers stopped and produced some water. Sad to just watch it burn with nothing to do about it. So.....I will be doing a bit more tearing down and refurbishing than initially expected. LOL Hope everyone is having a great spring (or fall for the Aussie's/New Zealanders).
