Hi guys,
I've also got a 1984 Bimota SB4 S.
it had 16" magnesium Campagnolo wheels which are not safe to use anymore due to advanced corrosion (never magnesium again).
Now I'm looking for similar styled aluminium replacements wheels (16” x 3,25” front and 16” x 4,25” rear).
See pic.
I’ve tried almost everything to find me these wheels but unfortunately: with little success.
PVM in Germany where willing to make me a set of 16” wheels but asked – sit down first – : € 10.000 (excl. 20% VAT).
Well, I assume it will cost me but not € 12.000 !!!
Does someone has an idea how to get a set of 16” aluminium 5-spoke Campagnolo style wheels?
Is there not a company able to make them from billet (aircraft quality)?
I’ve even made drawings of the hubs (al dimensions) assuming they will need them in order to be able to produce me a pair.
Hope someone can help me out with this problem.
Frank

Mr Marchesini (yes, the one) alwais give suggestions about maintenance of magnesium rims. You can get such from his Facebook wall https://www.facebook.com/roberto.ruota?fref=ts
Anyhow you can have 3 options: forged alu rims, fusion alu or machined ones from a billet (that is the easiest and uncheap solution )

Marvic produces magnesium wheels and say they are "save" for 2 years ....
Maintenance is no issue anymore for mine .... they're gone.
Anyway, it sounds nice to have them made from billet aluminium but sofar I don't know a company who can make them for me, that is what I'm looking for.
So if someone knows a company who can ..... please let me know

It's not that simple, you need to know a thing or 2 about rims ....

This shouldn't be that hard... the custom Harley market does it a fair bit (admittedly usually heavy on the style and not on the performance).
There's a company in Australia http://dragway.com.au/ that is known to do one off / limited edition wheels and with the EU to AU$ rate at the moment that might be doable. But i'm expecting that we should be able to come up with a couple of options.
They should also be able to do some FEA (finite element analysis) on the design prior to the machining to determine if there are any major weaknesses without having to depend on destructive testing (like OEM manufacturers do).
Regards,
Peter
