Engine Number ZDM Vs. DAJ

Hi Folks. I bought a Paso 750 MY 1988. Great bike and in fair good conditions for its age.
I have a question regarding the engine number: My bike has an engine number starting with DA J xxxxx.
After reading few posts on this great Forum, I have noticed that most of the engines starts with ZDM 750 LE and then the number.
Does anybody know why there is this difference and what that means?
