91 ignition problem

Post by twd46 »

My 91 907 wasn't started for a while before my ownership (I dont know any details about the po). It now starts and runs well. However, I noticed that there is smoke coming from the bottom of the ignition barrel. When i first got the bike, I cleaned the contacts of the barrel so Im not sure if I perhaps I did something wrong upon reassembly but I closely followed the instructions. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Check if the strain relief has cut into a wire and is causing a short.

Time to look into adding some relays to take the load off our precious switches and vulnerable wiring.

Thanks guys. I will see if a wire is cut thus causing the short.

Id like to do the wiring mod at some point. But id like to get it road worthy first and get stranded before doing the wiring mod. lol
