89 750 Sport Sprag Clutch

Post by deswoodau »

Hi All,

I've had my 750 parked up for a while and recently changed the oil and belts to start riding it again. Overall the bike runs great however the sprag is getting worse. With cold starts in particular I'm getting more and more sprag slip. Once warm, it starts without issue so I'm undecided whether to spend big $$ to fix it.

Anyone able to comment on the following VeeTwo kit or other options? https://www.veetwo.com/Product/sprag-clutch-upgrade-kit

For those whom have done the replacement, is it absolutely necessary to have specialist pulling tools etc? Will I get away with regular tools?

Thanks
Des

That sprag kit is for a bevel drive motor.......wont fit your belt drive . I would reccomend a proper flywheel puller ( dont use a 3 jaw puller , pulling on the circumferance can distort the flywheel ) as they can be unbelievably tight, so much so that you should be aware that upon releasing the flywheel and puller can fly off and cover some distance.........like dont stand in line with it
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time

I have one in my 907ie. Got to the point where I had to replace the spring almost annually. So after chatting with Steve at Bevel Heaven I bought the kit. So far it works well. Only been a couple of months. Tried once before to get the same kit from some guys in Italy who as it turns out didn't have a clue and after taking my money right away it took months to get a refund.

There's no problem so bad that a little fixing can't make it worse! : )

Thanks for the feedback. I don't have the tooling for this and I'm probably better off paying a mechanic.

Can anyone recommend a good operator to carry out the work in Metropolitan Melbourne?

Obviously experienced with these bikes and I'll supply the parts.
