Time for a new stator?

Hi,

The patient - 1988 Paso 750

Last year I noticed the Paso was over charging (16-18 volts DC at the battery). The original regulator/rectifier was replaced with an electrosport esr515. Now the motorcycle is under charging (12.1 volts DC at the battery).

There are three wires coming from the stator - two yellow and one red. When running at 3000 RPM, there's about 30 volts AC coming from each yellow wire and about half a volt coming from the red wire.

Time for a new stator?

Your help is appreciated.

Thank you.

The red wire is connected to the "other" ends of the yellow wires , its not another phase
If you have not already done so a check of all the electrical connections would be in order.
The original reg rect had a voltage sensor wire that gets its signal from the switched side of the ign switch . If there are poor connections between the battery and this wire ( there will be if you havnt sorted this already ) the reg will see this as under charging and ramp up the voltage untill it sees 13-14v at that wire.......which will be about 15-16v at the battery . Now that you have a new (good brand ) reg/rect that senses off the battery these poor connections will deliver low charge voltage to the battery .
Its a common Paso problem and there are heaps of posts re the diagnosis and repair .

Hi

I will inspect/service the ignition switch.

I am seeing 12.1 volts at the battery and out of the new regulator/rectifier.

Thanks for the help
