Re: Removing cam belts

OK I will try a bit of muscle. I did manage to loosen the bolt on the belt guide roller but after about half a turn it tightened up so I gave up on that that. Is there a special tool to remove this bolt. Although the manual suggests taking it off it skims over the removal. It's like everything, easy...

Removing cam belts

Help. Is it necessary to remove the steady stretcher roller as well as the adjustable roller to remove the cam belts. The manual says that this allows the belt to be removed easier. This suggests I can get the belt off without removing the steady roller although it looks like it is going to be a tug...

Re: Cam belt covers.

:D OK the good news is that removing the cam belt covers was my last senior moment (for the present anyway). Since then I have extracted the alternator cover (removing part of the lower frame - I would have spotted that eventually) and have taken off the old starter motor. The brand new replacement ...

Re: Alternator cover

Thanks.
Clearly I was missing something. I am too used to old British bikes with one piece frames. I will remove the left hand cradle which looks like that should allow the cover to come off so that I can get at the starter motor bolts.

Alternator cover

I am trying to get the alternator cover off with the engine in the frame so that I can replace a duff starter motor. The cover has moved by 2-3 centimetres with the aid of a puller but now seems jammed on the side stand anchor point. Am I missing something or do I have to take the engine out of the ...

Re: Cam belt covers.

 Sorry but I am afraid it was down to poor lighting and my stupidity as I had not noticed the screws that allow you to split the cam belt cover in two, in my excitement I was trying to take it off in one piece. I told you the learning curve was steep. Makes me wonder what chance I will have to ...

Re: Is this normal?

OK perhaps I did not explain very clearly what I was after with the original posting. Can anyone tell me exactly how the starter motor engages when the starter is activated and what it engages with. I have looked at the manual but it doesn't help me visualise it. Does anyone have a picture or can po...

Is this normal?

My familiarisation with my non-running Paso continues. As it had been idle for about 4 years I felt that putting some oil into the spark plug holes would be wise. Turning the engine over by hand using the rear wheel with the bike in gear reveals a noise like a ratchet from inside the alternator cove...

Cam belt covers.

I am trying to change the cam belts on my newly acquired Paso that has 15K miles on the clock but has been standing for a few years. The engine is still in the frame and I have managed to remove the vertical cylinder cam belt cover but I am finding it impossible to get the horizontal cylinder cover ...

Quartz clock

Sorry but this will sound pathetically trivial after the account of the recent earthquake in Christchurch by Mobius, but here goes. My Paso is missing, literally, the quartz? clock on the instrument panel. I have searched on the net without success for a replacement. Is this one of those parts that w...

Re: Rear indicators on 906

Thanks for that information. When I get back to France I will take the rear light off to see what electrics I have hidden under there. I have a sneaking suspicion that there may only be the rear light and brake light. We will see !!! This is all part of the "fun" of renovating old bikes.

Re: Another new member

Once again thanks for your replies. As a novice Ducati man I am in need of as much help and advice as I can get. As regards the starter motor it is brand new and came from one of the factory racing teams - apparently. However once I have my new battery connected I can start to see which bits work an...

Re: Another new member

Thanks for the information. I have updated my location although it is split between the UK and France. Where you say that most engine parts can be easily obtained I presume this is from various internet sources. Are there any that you recommend as having the greatest level of stock. Is there any poi...

Rear indicators on 906

I have been looking at various pictures of 906 Paso's and they all appear to have the rear indicators built into the rear light unit. I am away from the bike at the moment but mine appears to be an all red rear light unit. It also looks like the bike has been modified and 2 small indicators have bee...

Another new member

Hi I have just acquired a 906 Paso that has been off the road for 4 years and I am becoming acquainted with it. My plan is to replace the battery to see what electrics work, change the oil and filter and probably the timing belts before really doing much more. It came with a spare starter motor as t...
