Hi all,
Problem is sorted but thought it might give some folks a laugh.
Had the 906 for a few months now and it runs pretty well. Then suddenly everytime I hit a decent sized bump in the road, the engine cut out, then backfires and then is fine.
Having been through a lot of the excellent reference material here before I bought the bike, I started having nightmares about electrics and float settings and various other carb problems (I have an active imagination).
Started looking at the simple things first and for once it was a simple thing. The positive terminal screw on the battery had worked its way loose over time. When I hit a bump it must have broken the ignition circuit momentarily, putting unburnt fuel into the exhaust for the next cycle! Boom.
Maybe I do have an underlying electrical problem to find (knock on wood), but for now, tightening up the battery terminal has completely solved the problem.
Tools away, carry on riding.
cheers,
Mick

Mostly of those backfiring problems are coming from that Weber carburator, so You have to tune it first... When i had Weber in my 750 paso, it "backfired" quite often, then i changed to Dellortos, not anymore .... and later to Mikunis, not anymore backfing...

backfiring with the weber if it is the cause and not some intermittant electrical issue can be resolved by raising your idle jets a size or two to richin up the mixture(more fuel, less air)

Hi all,
For now it seems to be solved and I'm not keen to touch the weber while it it working well! Definately was only backfiring whenever I hit a bump and no other times. And hasn't happened again since....fingers crossed!
cheers,
Mick

Mick, keep looking for that loose battery terminal or similar. Carbys are not sensitive to bumps. Last time I had that problem was the battery terminal and it killed my clock.
