Starter motor brush plate and brushes

Post by redmidget »

I replaced the starter motor brush plate and pillar with brush for my 750 Paso with identical and available Kawasaki parts.

Kawasaki ZX750 (1996-2003) and ZX900 (1994-1997) use the same parts. Two parts numbers are required:

Brush plate with one brush attached: 14079-2055
Pillar with one brush attached: 21169-1058

I needed new brushes for my 900ss (1997) and baulked at paying nz$80 for the parts so I went to the local auto sparky and got a pack of 4 brushes for 12 bucks . Each brush needed a swipe with a file to fit and a small soldering job to fit to the brush plate. Most auto sparkies can also supply a suitable regulator / rectifyer at a good price . I hate to state the bleedin obvious but it is important to make sure that the starter motor is waterproofed upon re assembly

Great tip, let's keep them coming! We all know that the parts for our Paso's are becoming more and more rare.

you would have to check with your local dealer but if the brush plate is available you would assume the bush would be too.

just to add to this list of info for starter brushes
I have just bought Honda parts that fit - turns out the starter motor used on the Paso & Sport is a Japanese one so parts fairly common.
Honda part numbers for the brushes are:
31201-HA0-004
31231-ZA1-003
I paid $NZ63.00 for both.
Cheers
