Hi
some of you might know this tip, i read it on the TT1, F1 website for cleaning gold Brembo calipers. I did the brake mod and bought a set of 2nd hand gold brembo calipers a while ago. they were ingrained with years of brake dust and i tired a huge number of solvents & cleaners and really did not get much improvement. last week i saw some guy used Jif Cream household cleaner and a toothbrush. wow now they look like brand new items and it only took about 10 minutes work with each caliper!!

Hi Clive,
I've heard a lot of tips and tricks, but Jif Cream is new to me.
I know the product, but never tried it on motorcycle parts.
thanks for shearing.

I have never heard of Jif Cream before, but will search it out now. Apparently its a kitchen cleaner, and not available in the States, but I'll search out something similar.ducbertus wrote:Hi Clive,

"thanks for shearing" Haha - a sheep joke. Nice. From a Zeelander to a New Zealander.

Re: Brake Caliper cleaner
some even use oven cleaner, but don`t do that as it`s aggressive and can do more harm than good. It may clean that good that parts of the anodizing are gone.
I don`t know JifCream either. If it is rather mild it`ll be ok to use.

Re: Brake Caliper cleaner
I think Jif also branded as Cif should be widely available in Europe.
indeed for use in the kitchen and cleaning ceramics. it contains a like chalk as grinding component.
and yes, it's mild. nowadays we use often Dasty, which is a more aggresive cleaner. rinsing with water afterwards is mandatory. but it is effetive and cheap.
I don't know where Dasty is availble.

Re: Brake Caliper cleaner
In the USA, Jif is short for Jiffy, a peanut butter. Probably a reasonable cleaner with a toothbrush, but much better on a sandwich.

Re: Brake Caliper cleaner
Now that you mention it, toothpaste is a pretty good cleaner with mild abrasive in it. Remember to rinse.

Re: Brake Caliper cleaner
Dishwasher , just throw in extra powder . An old dishwasher ( the simpler the better ) makes a great parts washer , specially if you can "fiddle " the timer and the thermostat so that it washes for ages at about 85 - 90 degrees cel ( not quite boiling ), and just use dishwasher powder ( wont foam up ..... very important ) ,heaps .... like at least 1/2 a cup and add more in as you go , and give it a good 1/2 hour for metal bits
I wish I was young again............Id be heaps smarter than last time
