higher profile 16" tires

Ian Faloon's book recommends going up to a Meteler Z2 130/70/16 and Z1 150/80/16 for better handling. Does anyone know where I can find these tires?

Go to any shop that carries tires. They can order them for you. They aren't the model common sizes, so you know most people won't have them on hand....

I found a Dunlop D205 150/80/zr16 for $114.95 and a Dunlop Qualifier 130/70ZR16 for $92.95 at http://www.sporttour.com. These will surely look better than the Michelin A/M 59 goofy tread and profile. Those tires look like they should be on some 70's era bike.

I am not sure of the front fender clearance for the taller tires. Anybody know for sure? I might be picking up a LTD in a couple days. Owner says I at least need tires. I was think of the Avon 45/46 models. Anymore suggestions out there?!!!

The 70 series might be close, but the 80 series front has got to rub. There isn't much clearance with the stco mich to begin with. I haven't been near a 750 since 88, so I am guessing from memory here.

Tamburini planned Paso to use LOW profile tires, NOTHING, like 150/80/16" (rear)!

Ok, U can change maybe to such tires, but its then OUT OF THAT, how HE wanted Paso to "look". 750 is VERY GOOD LOOKING Ducati, IF use low profile 16" tires... Anyway all Pasos are not "SO" good bikes to handle(907ie is better) compared to other Ducatis with different steering geometry & 17" tires, so i think Tamburini was right, especially, how Paso should look(and he wanted to sell bikes to overseas, without managed to do that, caused by toooo high prices!!!)... There are much better Ducatis to "handdle" in twisty roads, so If u want such, go to another Ducati modells, not Pasos. Pasos are made to LOOK GOOD(with 16" low profile tires)! I think, 17" conversion is better to 750&906 Paso, than chanching to higher profile tires, IF REALLY WANT better handling, or change to other Ducati modells, if want really better handling.

Actually, my bike is a 1990 750 Sport but I think the same would probably apply Antti. I sort of agree, but I don't have a problem with making mod's as long as they are reversible to the original state.

When I bought my bike five years ago I was given a spare set of tyres with it. These tyres are Metzler

MEZ1 130/70 ZR 16 (front)

ME1 160/70 VB 16 (rear)

About a year ago I had to replace my tyres and put these on. They fit fine, but are a little closer to the mudguard (fender ?) and swingarm than standard. This is documented elsewhere on the 750 forum.

Two weekends ago I was invited to a Metzler track day at Kyalami and took the Paso. While I was there I spoke to some of the Metzler guys and they said that these sizes are still available, but had to be ordered through a Metzler dealer. On Monday I ordered the new tyres. The only difference is that the MEZ1 is no longer made so I had to have ME1 tyres front an rear. Delivery is between 2 and 4 weeks.

Are U sure, that front tire DONT hit to bodywork under HARD braking???

Do You have any fotos of that "clearance" between rear tire and swingarm???

I've just taken photos but only the front one is clear. Between the highest point on the front tyre and the lowest point on the mudguard is 6mm clearance. There are no scuff or tyre marks on the underneath of the mudguard. These tyres have been on for a year / around 1,000km and have just done a track day too.

The rear is difficult to measure as there are lots of places to measure. Apart from the top of the chainguard that was already cut to fit the standard tyre, the minimum clearance on the rear tyre to anything is about 6 or 7mm.

How about measurement between highest point of tire and front part of swingarm? I think, that CAN be critical, cause Your tire is higher profile, than original. That can be measured quite easily from downside with some suitable tool and then measure tool thickness... Just came to my mind, but i havent look there with Michelin, how much space is there with original tire, so Your tires can fit very well..... If so, then no need to change to 17" wheels....

Those tires dont look so nice, as Michelins. Anyway your Paso looks good! Seems, that still good clearcoat in fairings...
