Will 906 contis fit a 907??

Post by holla »

Hi all, After listening to a fellow members 906 with conti silencers on i had to get myself a pair for my 907. Will they fit straight onto a 907 or is there some fettling involved?

I can always get another set of downpipes if i need to cut/weld them to give a better angle or length to fit (as its not seen when fitted)

Your thoughts please.

Thanks

Might take a little fiddling but should work.
Even swapping between two different 906's or 907's can take a little fiddling.

906 to 907 should be as much of a straight swap as 906 to 906 - the chassis is the same - the mounts the same and the exhaust the same - you may need to prat around with fuel mapping though but that is out of scope for the original question ! :-P

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. But what I do know for sure is that I bought a pair of Conti replicas from a reputable supplier that was supposed to fit a 750/906 and they were not sure if they would fit a 907. I took a chance and bought them, they do not fit on my 907. The bend of the front part of the exhaust can is such that it hit my swingarm, it was about 1/2" off. - Gene

It is conceivable that a pair of Conti's has a slightly different angle than the Staintunes or Stockers or F1's or Rennsports that I routinely swap among my 906 and 907. The swing arms are different and i do have to tweak the hangers a bit when swapping around. Nothing major but the hangers need to be a little straighter to fit the 907.

You are almost close enough to me that I wouldn't mind bringing those Conti replicas I have and give them a try on your 906, you are about 3 1/2 hours. - Gene

I have a set of Contis that are very similar to the old 750 GT style on my 907. They were intended for the 906 and fit my 907 with a little fiddling. The mounting bracket was very close to the swing arm and the pipes had to be "adjusted" to fit properly. 1-1/2 hrs approx.

Getting the damn things on is the easy bit - a hammer and a bracket and some sheer BFI (Brute Force and Ignorance) will do that.

The problem that bothers me is :- "would she need re-chipping?" Will she run too lean with the extra gas flow? Are your pistons in danger from running that lean over a long distance cruise?

When my mechanic fitted the Conti 2 in 1, told me that a new chip was not necessary.
I wonder, he's right...
By now, I have had no problem, even if I do very less kms.

I think the problem might occur if you were to run the bike at steady cruising speeds for a long distance.

Now REMEMBER I don't know if there is a problem with the mixture running too lean. I don't even know how to check such a thing and - if there is a problem with the misxture - I have NO IDEA how to cure it or which chip to use or where to get the chip from. I'm (useless) just trying to flag up a potential problem. Coz guys - I REALLY want a set of truely anti-social Contis on my bike (Damn you should hear the Termis on my 916s - even with a helmet on its LOUD!)
