Well I have very lightly denibbed all the panels but again I'm finding more pinholes and a little primer showing on some edges on different bits .the finer sanding brings out all the really small stuff , it now sort of depends if I can be bothered with going through the knifing putty, reprime and red on all those little bits.i will because the way I see it I've put so much work in already it'd be a shame not to. I have only used the one sanding pad on all the parts, so far to give you an idea of how lightly I'm sanding this technically last prep before the clearcoat

Now it's ready for clearcoat, fair bit of mucking around but that last little effort has made the difference.

Thanks Tamburinifan, yeah lighting is one of the biggest problems, for that last fill, sand and reprime some spots before the last basecoat, I did a lot of the prep on that table in my dining room with some lights from the shed as well, but spraying in my shed setup the way it is ,is damn hard to see it as well as I'd like

Congrats on completion! Looks great from here. Lots to gain from digesting your documentation. Thank you once again for the extra efforts to share with us and thank you for the things I've learned and relearned. Inspired me to finish spraying color coats on my '02 YZR500 fairings (1/12 scale Tamiya) yesterday and the results are better from studying your posts. :^)

thanks mate if i can help 1 person in some way its gotta be a good thing, pretty funny really cause you can learn off my mistakes, waha so thats a lot of learning. one thing really important about all this is dont do too many coats of any product , as cracking may happen. when i took the lemans tank in to show Mario thinking i was close to clear he said take it back to bare as it had a couple of issues and to fix would need more coats so yeah that was a big lesson on my first paintjob.

Turns out I needed to clearcoat within maximum 24 hours after , I missed that window and now I'll have to lay I more coat red and then straight away put the clearcoat on, I really should have been more prepared. I had run out of thinners and didn't have enough to clear, so big thing there is you really need to clear straight after your final basecoat,no denibbing unless necessary and no sanding between clearcoats, so now I'm going to have 1 more coat than I'd like

Highway89,

If you missed the window (wet-on-wet), using a light buf with a 3M pad (or alternatively sand superficially with 600) should be sufficient to assure good bonding between red and clear coat.

You're doing fine!

Frank

As it turns out ,denibbing yesterday and I damaged a fairing so out came the filler and primer again, I will just go with the extra coat but thanks Frank. I was sitting there watching the AFL grand final with mum at the oldies home and that's when I realized it was too late for paintshop, but it was worth it mum loved the game, die hard west coast eagles fan.

I have applied an extra coat red and now clear coated these parts, the clear came out quite orangepeely, it can wait now to harden before I sort it out as I need to clean this stainless steel trim off an EH holden for a customer, a long slow process. Unfortunately my dad has suffered some form of brain trauma through anaesthetic for a knee replacement and I'm really going to struggle to keep on target for a xmas finish. I will just plug away when I can .

No real forward movement on the bike, but I'm fairly advanced on the stainless, then I can look at the bike again

Thanks very much Paso 750, I haven't really touched the 89 for a while but hopefully start again in the new year, looking to see the end of 2020 as I'm sure many of us are.Protwin have made a start on the engine and I have finished the EH stainless so things will move along soon, a great xmas to you guys and enjoy the riding and restoring

Sorry to say nothings happened recently as I'm still waiting on the rebuilt engine to be finished then I will install ,setup the fairings and check where my lines go prior to application of the white paint, getting a little short on patience lately , both the engine ( although I do appreciate they take time) and the importing of the 750 from the UK. I'm afraid another aussie summer may be over before I have one or both of these beauties on the road.
