:funny: OK, so Monster's have *most* of the fun. :D

Used to be that only the 900's had a dry clutch, although I think that's changed now too.

Low maintenance is a key reason. I don't want one but would have one if it was on a bike I wanted real bad!

Why?

I don't understand... surely you are not saying it's less reliable than a dry clutch? I think we know that's not the case or the Japanese wouldn't be using them. I didn't buy my Monster because of its clutch type, I bought it because it was a hoot to ride, more than any other "standard" available.

I will probably be labeled a heretic for saying this, but I think the open clutch noise is a bit annoying personally. NOW... Having said that, if mine *was* a dry clutch, it wouldn't stop me from putting a vented clutch cover on it. :D It *does* look cool.

I know it's just one of the things that makes a Ducati a Ducati.

1. I LOVE more dry clutch "rattle and hum"

2. Dry clutch is "belongs" to Ducati engine MORE, than wet ones! :D

3. Open CF cover: Nice to see red pressure plate running there

4. Easier to keep clean with ONLY compressed air !!!

5. Not so black oils !!!

6. More, if needeed... :funny: :funny: :funny: I stop to six, cause its very close to sex and Ducati with dry clutch & open cover is VERY SEXY..... at least women seems to like it... or me...

still something from one Fin mc chat: (pitty, that only Fin language)

Shortly: One SS owner with wet clutch lost one friction plate(went broken) there and some parts of that friction plate are missing now and he would be VERY HAPPY to own DRY clutch now to find missing parts easily !!!!!!... Now he only pray, that they dont make any harm inside engine and he find parts from oil filter !!!!!

Again have to say, NEVER wet clutch to my Ducatis.... :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny:

One failure on an SS does not make ALL wet clutches bad on ALL Ducatis! :umm:

But I do agree with your other points regarding how it looks!! It definitely looks cool to have the open clutch cover, and there is no argueing that is it a unique feature, just as desmo valves are. I just don't care for the sound. I think the sound of a booming exhaust is far sexier (except on a harley, then it's just noise :D ), and often the dry clutch overpowers that in stop-and-go traffic. Like I said, just a personal preference though.

I don't want this to sound like I'm picking a fight, so I'll stop now. :D

Ultimately I think on ly the SBK line of bike will have a dry clutch. It also has to do with noise limits and trying to make the bike get under the noise limitations.
