odyssey battery

Post by bavarian »

Is anyone running an odyssey battery in their 750 Paso? I have found that the PC535 fits the 906 and 907 but have not found a listing for the 750. Do they all use the same size battery?

Just take the measurement or take it out to match it up to a new battery.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently deployed to the desert and just wanted to be able to order the battery before I leave for home.

I'll measure mine later and get the part number too.

This was sent to me at the club site but may help many here that want to find batteriis and the sizes.

This is an AGM battery, by the way: http://www.bikebatts.com/index.php/cPath/1_1251_1278

Yuasa YTX14AHL-BS is a sealed maintenance free battery, while OEM was a traditional lead-acid. My old mechanic told me that it's better not to use a sealed battery on old motorcycles. I guessed he referred to gel batteries (that need particular charging circuits), but then I found these articles:
The two most common types of CAR batteries are low maintenance (non-sealed) and maintenance free (non-sealed or sealed). [The low maintenance batteries have a lead-antimony/calcium (dual alloy or hybrid) plate formulation; whereas, the maintenance free batteries have a lead-calcium/calcium formulation.] The advantages of maintenance free batteries are less preventative maintenance, longer life, faster recharging, greater overcharge resistance, reduced terminal corrosion and longer shelf life, but are more prone to deep discharge (dead battery) failures due to increased shedding of active plate material. In hot climates, buying non-sealed batteries is recommended because a sealed battery will NOT allow you to add water when required or to test the specific gravity with an external hydrometer.

(repairfaq.org)
Sealed batteries are made with vents that (usually) cannot be removed. The so-called Maintenance Free batteries are also sealed, but are not usually leak proof. Sealed batteries are not totally sealed, as they must allow gas to vent during charging. If overcharged too many times, some of these batteries can lose enough water that they will die before their time.

I don't know if you use sealed batteries with no problems on your Paso, but IMHO it's better to think twice if your climate is hot or if your charging circuit is not working properly (I reccomend the well known electrical wiring upgrade with starting relay)

bye,
