Really,
I never heard anyone who hate the Paso look.
Every time I stop at the traffic light, the people turn the eyes to see the bike (not me 'cause I'm very ugly).

as i stated earlier, i am taking this seriously.
my friends who ride (which i can finally join them soon) are experienced and approach riding the way most europeans do. properly equipped, and safety conscience. no gixxers or hayabusa's. plus you really cannot ride with 'wife beaters and flip-flops' in new england. we are all well into our 30's, and just want to go out for rides.
i will get proper boots, gloves, jacket(s), and always wear jeans.

That is the right attitude-full gear rather than fool's gear. Btw, jeans don't hold up too well to asphalt. Upgrade there as soon as possible.
Is this a one owner bike you are looking at? What color?

If it is, my personal opinion is that the Paso makes a poor "first" motorcycle. A much better bike would be a Monster 600/620/750 as they are much more upright in the riding position and have no bodywork. The Paso has somewhat tricky handling and certain body parts are unobtanium. Every new rider drops their bike, me included and I have dropped my 748 with 35 years of street riding. It happens, beleive me.

I'd agree with all of this, I think a small Monster would make a better first bike to. BUT... that said, you could do a lot worse than a Paso for a first bike too. I guess it all comes down to YOU, and what you're expecting out of a bike. One thing John didn't mention is a Paso, or most any Ducati, will take more committment on the maintanence side of things too.

FWIW my first bike was a brand spanking new 907ie. I did drop it (in the first 24 hours I had it) and everybody told me it wasn't a great first bike too. But I still own it and I'm not sorry I started on it.

The best bike to start on? not hardly. A BAD bike to start on??? Maybe... a lot of that depends on you...
