Sean's 907

Post by seanery »

I finally picked up my 907 on Tuesday. It's been almost 60 days since I bought it. I had a day and a half off and drove from Fairfax, VA to Freeport, ME and back. It was a long haul, but I've had a smile on my face since!

I rode it yesterday for the first time and the clutch chatter was a bit alarming. Someone convince me that dry clutches (to the unanitated at least) are loud. :D

Pics will come soon, and I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.

loud clutches save lives

Post by mrinflux »

sean,

there's the old story about the ducati novice who buys a brand new ducati and, hearing all the clutch noise, brings the bike back to have the "defective" clutch serviced, much to the amusement of everybody in the service department.

With dry clutches the clutch plates rattle in the clutch basket at idle and any other time you're not under load. Your dry clutch shouldn't make noise when under load; if it does, that's an indication all is not right w/ your clutch.

Do a roll-on. clutch noise should subside as soon as you give it gas. if clutch noise continues during roll-on, all is not well in clutchville.

So, it's a worlwide story!!!!!
And I was thinking it was only an on old Italian story....
As well as the old Italian mot "Ducati soldi gettati" (Ducati money lost) that a friend of mine used to tell me after I bought my first 906....
:funny: :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny: :funny:

Don't worry about your clutch!!!

seanery -

where in fairfax, va. did you get your 907?
i live in burke, va. which is very close to fairfax.
wasnt aware that there was another 907 that close to me.

as to the clutch noise, mine does it also when i engage first gear and let the clutch out. but it goes away as soon as i start to accelerate. so, it is apparently "normal" for these dry clutches.
agree with you though that compared to most other bikes, the noise is at first very alarming.

Keepsdad,
I bought it in Maine and brought it to Fairfax. I travel with Ringling Brothers. We set up at the Patriot Center on Tuesday, but had a dark day so a new act could get some floor time on Wednesday. I left about 3:30 pm Tuesday got to the hotel in Freeport about 2:00am - damn, Virginia, DC, Maryland traffic! I think it took over 2 hours to get to Baltimore from 66 exit 57. I picked up the bike about 10am and left the shop at 11am...got back in the area about 9:30pm Wednesday night...what a long trip! I was excited Wed & Thursday so I didn't feel tired, but I was dragging today.

Welcome tothe wonerful world of 907 ownership. You'llalways have someone to talk to when you stop and park your bike. Unlike Jap race reps and others they attract interest from everyone.

Noise is good they can hear you coming before they see you!

Cliff, I'm the video engineer - I'm responsible for all of the gear that runs the video and I color and shade the cameras and fire off all of the video clips that run during the show.

Finally, if you don't have any mechanic issue, don't worry for the noise.
Many people make holes on the clutch cover (or buy holed ones) both making cooler the clutch and better hearing its noise (or sound) :lick: ?!?!

I took the body panels off yesterday so I could wash and wax them. I noticed that I have a couple of different sized screws.

I have 2 different diameters and 2 different lengths for each diameter.

I have 3 short of the bigger diameter and 3 long.

I have 9 short of the smaller diameter and 9 long.

What gives?
Can someone tell me what I am supposed to have and what length goes where?

thanks in advance,
-sean
