Fork air caps.

Post by streetsurfer »

I uncorked a bottle of wine one night and pondered what could be done with the orange "cork".

A hobby back saw, a forstner bit and some strategic plucking of rubber from the holes drilled in each cork half, a little epoxy and a metal valve cap, and viola, new caps for the forks schrader valves.
I've noticed in pictures on the forum that some are missing one or both of the black ones that came on the bikes. Maybe they are available. Probably even from the hardware store, but since the rubber on mine is cracking I thought I'd make a set to match the coloring of the switches and gauge markings. A hole grommet was found to fit the triple clamp long ago, which closes off the recessed area from water and dirt and cleaned up the appearance a bit. It may even look better with the black grommet and cap. Opinions? I just need to finish rounding off the bottom edge of these orange caps. Then they will thread down farther. This picture is with a valve extender, but I think the way to go will be without them.

Not a bad idea but I think that I would get a black stopper rather than an orange one to keep things the same.

I will have to go and buy some wine to get the stoppers. Any suggestions what i can do with the wine rather than throw it out? LOL

Colin.
