Miles per gallon and other stuff

Post by beemerboy »

I was out on the Duc about a month ago running some errands. When I returned to my bike I noticed a small crowd of people standing around it including a man and his two children. As I approached the crowd one of the children said out loud "Look Daddy, a GREEK motorcycle!!" The father smiled and said "No, Honey, Ducati is made in Italy." We both shared a smile over that one.

I rode my 907 up into the mountains this past Sunday to escape the heat. It was a beautiful day, there was little traffic, and I saw no police cars along my route. At one point I was able to ride in a "spirited manner" for a brief period and the 907 just wanted more. Later on in my ride I stopped for gas and did a quick calculation and discovered that I was getting 50.4 MPG for this ride. I've noticed that my average MPG is in the high 40's and have wondered if that's the norm for our bikes. Regardless, I'm impressed by the overall package the 907 represents!

And last, during this same Sunday ride I decided to stop at a convenience store for some water and to stretch my legs. There were many cruiser riders already parked nearby and two more joined the crowd after I dismounted. These riders, a man and a woman on matching Sportster's, got off their bikes and stared at the 907 for a while. The woman asked the man what kind of bike a Ducati is and he replied "It's made by Vespa, the same people who make scooters." And with that he looked right at me with a sneer then turned and went into the store. :toofar:

I considered the source and smiled back but kept my distance from the cruiser crowd. I lingered a while enjoying the sun while I sipped some water then prepared to leave. Once I fired up the Duc with its aftermarket pipes you could tell that it wasn't a scooter (not that there's anything wrong with scooters!) and that the sound garnered lots of attention as I departed.

Man, there ain't nothing like the sound of a V Twin with aftermarket pipes! I'm talkin' about an ITALIAN V twin of course!

Good story and even in the UK we get guys like that! Scooters indeed!

Your MPG is good very good, I don't get much more that 42 and our gallons our slightly bigger than the US version!
