Cutting/removing airbox lid?

Any problems w just a frame holding the filter?
Thinking of rain/washing, engine driveability issues etc.
If fully open is a problem, please tell how you did it.
A pic is of course appreciated!

Taking "snorkels" away is best way.... My one 907 friend tested it in dyno and realized, that best power came just only with snorkels taken away. With totally open airbox cover also intake noise come very loudly, when giving throttle to engine. I noticed it in one my own test.

Do U mean fuel mapping??? If so, then NO, he keep all mapping, etc. same, only tested another versions of airbox covers! Best was only snorkels away! I trust him 100%, cause he is real Ducati guru and he make very good inertia dyno to make such work and he knows plenty of mapping eproms. Like for example he put to his Elephant ST2 fuel system with M16 ECU and make new maps to his bike!!!! He had to make plenty of dyno runs, but at least he is 100% satisfied to his new map.... :laugh: Very special Elephant but function now, like "trains toilet" !!!! :funny: :funny: :funny: As U maybe know, we Finns want to be best in world, but only in some special small areas, never in big markets! Ok, Nokia is quite big one.... :laugh:

Why didn`t he alter the fueling?
Airbox w no snorkels and airbox without the whole lid is a big difference in air supply for the engine.
A big change in air supply to the motor without altering the fuel seems strange to me.

Propably he wanted to see ONLY airbox modification changes to power/ torque without any other mods...

Yes, it means! As You know, they had very simple and very well working toilets in steam trains after 2. WW..... It comes from that. Ok, it was somekind Finn "joking", so maybe others didnt understand it. :laugh:

Was any testing done with an air box lid partially cut open? And then without snorkels only? And then no lid, just filter? Was it K and N filter each time or just stock? Hard to believe this bike gets enough air with stock box and simply no snorkels.......

Can you give more details?

Anyone else tried cutting open the box a little without opening up the whole thing?

Blackduc, I cut mine in kind of a shallow "C" shape in the front and had to trim the back rear corners to fit the lid on the K&N. No dyno info. Did this 14 years ago, along with the usual minor since able mods. Wow! I have owned this machine a long time.

Gert, mods include Norton Commando mufflers gutted, shortened and pipe side enlarged to match up with the 907's exhaust, to create a megaphone system, chip, 888 velocity stacks, 42 rear sprocket, stock waxed candle replaced with 90 mm Hellas for fast night ridding, modified seat, various relays, K&N, four replacement regulators, 10 ga. wire from stator to regulator w/ twist lock connectors, drilled and taped bars for bicycle mirrors, breather relocation to tag area, cold air flex tubes to the air box location, etc, etc. Has always run well. 14 years is a long time!

Gert, to the left and right of 90mm round Hella modulars inside headlight bracket. Tight fit. Used some racer-boy small air scoops w/home made rock guards. Functional.
She is in a state of disassembly at present after encounter with former spousal unit's Oldsmobile, on a cold, wet, dark mountain back road.
Proof that every cloud has a silver lining, above led to discovery that fuel tank is a complete right off due to rust being the only thing holding the paint on. Will look for photos.

Why? my 907 i.e. runs great and it is box stock. It definitley isn't a rocket ship, but from top to bottom runs well. It has the euro chip, Staintune exhaust and a stock type air filter
