907 mods

Post by blakduc1 »

Katescottageiom,

Wow that sounds like some interesting mods you have done to that bike. Sure would like to see pics of some of that. Those hellas work well, huh? And you have enough wattage with the mods I guess. I would love to have some better lighting on the 907.

I do feel that the 907 needs more air availability and am considering opening that air box some. But I really want to hear from a few that have actually done the mod and have some results if possible. Especially if anyone has dyno run of before and after.....

Wondering same thing  I have done also 2 headlights to both of my Pasos and 750 dont have problems, cause its carbied, but 907 injection take so much current from charching system, that easy to drain battery, if drive some hours with 2 X 55W bullbs on. That happened to me and i had to put switch to "log out" another high beam, when really dont need it. 907 dont have so powerfull generator, only 350W, so be carefull with light mods in 907IE. Here some details:

300W 750 Paso
350W 907IE (& 906 propably)
420W earlier modell ST2 (97-99)
520W later modell ST2 (after 99)
520W ST4S

Also they have fit much smaler bateries today to Ducatis(for saving weight propably). ST4S(and last ST2's have ONLY 10Ah gel battery, so if such bike dont start quite immediatelly, it dont start at all...

would it be possible to fit a generator from for example an ST 2?

I havent look that closer, but "maybe" from early ST2 , but NOT from "later" ST2 version!!! I think, there was some thread/space, etc. problem to fit newer one. I raelly havent heard anybody do such modification to 907. ST4S have totally different generator system, than 907, nothing can be changed as "via versa" between 907 and ST4S... I quess, that some big problems also between 907 and early ST2... :ugh: There is not so much, what can be done with higher output to 907...

higher output

Post by blakduc1 »

I also am interested in what can be done to increase output for 907ie. I use heated jacket and gloves sometimes in cold months. Headlights are too dim. Need more wattage. I fitted a battery with much higher cold cranking amps to the bike that I got from Batteries Plus in Athens, GA, USA. It really helps cranking the bike and helps some with lights, etc, but it needs more charging to support that batery --- it can only do so much. (You can find batteries that have the right size with higher amps rather than stock Yuasa recommendation.) There must be a way to get more elect. power from a 907......

Thanks,

air box lids

Post by blakduc1 »

Alas we have deviated from our original course. --- I would still like to hear from those that have modified the 907 air box for more flow. I would like to know before and after results.

Thank you

cutting/removing

Post by katescottageiom »

Blackduck, Hellas are separate high/low beams, wattage is 65 H-9 bulbs which gives aprox. a 50 percent increase in ilumination, but sure seems to be more actual light on the road. The real trick for 907's would to use the single 90mm HID mod. that contains both the high/low beam, and uses only 35 watts. I priced that unit at about $.450.00.
See if I can find some photos, closing my Real Estate office and moving out has left me little time or access to the net. I am doing this from the local library.

Is that something samekind, as "DD headlight" to ST series bikes??? I am remembering, that such also use some H9 bulbs... That kit was something close 575USD/394€. That DD system looks very nice and its very good kit including all needeed, like relays, wires, bulbs, etc.... I have thinked to buy that from usa, but need to pay very high txes, VATs, etc again to EU market....     maybe someone can do with me "deal", that i pay hole kit to "someone" and "someone" send to me it like "a gift", so propably then no need to pay taxes  .... ....

Antti, if something like that will save you some money, contact me about it. Gerhard bought a mirror on eBay and the guy wanted too much to ship it to Germany, so Gerhard had him mail it to me, then I mailed it to Gerhard. It saved him a little bit of money and put a smile on his face. :D

I'll help if I can.

That was to save shipping costs.
Declaring things as a gift won`t help as some countries customs will then guess the value. This is mainly for new stuff. For used parts that`s easier. Customs can not check 100% of the imported things so they do random inspections. So if one is lucky stuff can arrive w/o having to pay customs but that is pure luck

cutting/removing

Antti, I purchase most of my Hella's for about $80.00 a pair which includes mounts and adjusters. This is far bellow retail. They are easy to wire using a 30 amp relay and proper guage wire. The HID is not a H-9, but a Zenon or something, not sure. I know nothing about the ST 2 lighting.
I also have a warmed over Darmah, it has a Bosch 8"(200 mm) round head light, which is stock, with a H-4 80/100 bulb that turns night into daylight. I use a relay and 10 ga. wire.

I responded to your post about this on the http://www.ducati.ms forum.....you can send it to me, I'll repack it in a plain cardboard box, and ship it back to you stating that it is used and you only paid $50 for it. Think that might help? :D

For some years, I could have many stuff from USA, far East etc. with no problem when listed as gift.

Now, here in Italy it's much more difficult.

The customs offices became much more smart, so they start to guess there are too much gifts in the world  .

So, it's better to declare on the parcels a small amount (30 €.) that is the limit to have them without taxes :D .

That can't work always, but sometimes it works.

Good luck.
