Removing oil filter nightmare

Post by macwig »

Just when I get to what I think is the easy job Im wrong.Trying to take off the over tightened oil filter from the previous owner I have exhausted all options.I tried a strap wrench, wide channel locks,a Ducati oil cap wrench(but by now the grip points are all buggered up)and last I drilled a hole and put a large screwdriver through and tried to crank it off but no good.Anyone got any suggestions??Thanks :( :( :banghead:

I have a chain wrench (there is a chain instead of a strap as in a strap wrench) that works bloody well. Also, a very large plumber's pipe wrench (I mean a large wrench, not a large plumber) might do the job.

As a last resort, I've heard of people ripping the exterior case off of the filter and then using a hammer and chisel to knock the base counter-clockwise to get it off..........as a last resort. ;)

I wish you luck with it.

I use a "Facom" tool with a toothed metal band you can strap tight with a large knob.

You could try a large hose clamp or muffler clamp and hammer on that to loosen.
