rear wheel bearings

While giving the Paso a look over I found that there is side play in the rear wheel. Before I pull off the wheel is there anything I should know about replacing the rear wheel bearings? Is it just a matter on knocking them out like I do on a Guzzi? Then tapping back in?
On the plus side, the bike started up and ran nice on the short ride I took. Did not go to far do to the loss rear wheel.
Also can the front brake rotors be grounded down? When braking hard I get a lot of vibration.

Well I answered my own question, they tap out, no problem. Looks like the sprocket bearing is also shot.

Yeah, the bearings just knock out and the replacements aren't too difficult to find. I figure the sprocket carrier bearings are not too difficult to find, also. As for turning down the front rotors, I imagine you may be able to, but I'm not sure.

The original front brake rotors certainly can be turned down. I had mine done about a year ago.

I order the wheel bearings from a bearing dealer in Hartford. $28 each for the RFKs which was the only brand that had the right size. Ouch, I paid $8 for per bearing for the LeMans.
I'll check on having the disc turned.
I'm thinking of selling the Paso now that its all sorted. I always end up doing this. I'm thinking of getting back to owning one bike. Maybe a Buell Uly if I can find a used one in the locally .

Don't sell your Paso. You will regret it. I had a 98 ST2 for 5 years and had sorted out all of its little ills, then sold it to get an ST4s. I still can't ride the new bike as well as the old bike, and I'm constantly sorting out all those things I did over the past 5 years on the older bike. Too much time wrenching, and not enough time riding. Now don't get me wrong, I love to wrench as well as ride, and if I didn't, I would just buy a Honda and accept the ride for what it was. But that's just not the way of this tribe. But there is a balance, and I have once again stepped onto the wrenching side of things. Bad timing with the weather so lovely lately. I'm just riding a half finished project bike all the time.
