switch exhaust

Post by macwig »

When I bought the 1992 907ie it had stainless open pipes that are quite loud.I saw a pair of 91 black crome pipes on EBAY and got them for 20.00...Are there any adjustments to be made when switching over pipes. The bike runs fine with the factory so far. Thanks :)

That depends on whether the system was modified for the straight pipes. If the chip was never changed, then it was probably running lean with straight pipes. What color are the plugs and did you get a look at them before changing the mufflers? When you say straight pipes, are they louvered internally and megaphone style? May be a StainTune exhaust.

Hi

When I got my bike, it had already been fitted with open stainless pipes. They had been professionally fitted, which means that the airbox has been drilled to allow for a better airflow, and the chip has been remapped to ensure correct mixture right through the rev range.

As suggested above, check the colour of the plugs before changing, but if in any doubt, get it checked over by your local shop first, as if the mixture is too lean, you run the risk of burning out a valve. Although I had the receipts from the shop that did the tuning, I still had my local guys check it over to make sure everything was on track.

Personally, I love the sound the open pipes make, and it is just a case of not going nuts in a built up area or near the police.

Remember, loud pipes are safer, as people can hear you coming
