oil temps??? too cold or just the indication
oil temps??? too cold or just the indication
I heard somewhere that these bikes run pretty cool. my temp guage only shows about 150F after a good ride. that seems to cold for proper moisture evaporation. does sound normal to other riders??? I havent checked my indication system for accuracy yet. if they do run this cool does anyone block of an oil cooler to get temps up??? John

That sounds right. Mine gets to 65C (150F) during "normal" riding, only getting any higher if trapped behind traffic on a tight hilly road and you are using 2nd & 3rd gear for some time. As soon as you are passed the traffic it is back down to 65C.

I think the accuracy of the guage or sender is crap. PLUS we know the wiring is crap and if I take a look at the diagram I'm sure I'll find that the wire goes to the tail light before it gets to the gauge ;-P

Re: oil temps??? too cold or just the indication

Come on guys, it's not that bad! I've seen my temperature gauge show a range of readings in different riding conditions - like Fraser - and I'd say it's reasonably accurate. Several times, when I was tuning my carbs for idle and slow running, I'd run the bike to get to the temperature I was wanting to test at, and I felt confident. The bike runs at similar temperatures in similar condiitons to other makes I have ridden, especially Honda VFR and Honda VTR, however I would agree that mostly it runs cooler - which I like. It keeps things on the safe side, with less wear.
Re: oil temps??? too cold or just the indication
actually too cool isnt the best thing either, maybe they were designed for it but at the very least they will have trouble boiling moisture out of the engines after sitting or when moisture condenses from hot cool cycles. but if they are all running at these lower temps and are not haveing problems then who am I to argue with success. I guess nothing is published as to acceptable temps so they are what they are???? if its bad at least I'm not alone John

If the engine is running too cold, then easy to put some plastic (like cut from old oil can) between oir radiators and fairings, that air is not going thru oil radiators. That function well in my bike and here in north need to take another plate away only hottest time of summer and if drive only in towns/cities....

Re: oil temps??? too cold or just the indication
I checked my bike, yesterday. It was 96-degrees (F) and I was traveling down the Interstate at a steady 70 mph (4500 rpm). The highest my bike got was 160-degrees (F).Fraser wrote:That sounds right.
