Anyone Have Their Paso's Engine Removed?

I think Gerhard stated that he has his engine out of his bike, but just in case he doesn't...

I need the measurements of the Pantah engine at the lower mounting points of the engine. They are very difficult to get an accurate measurement with the engine in the bike. Here are the two points I need....



It looks like there is a spacer on the right side (brake side), but if I can get the measurements of each side from the joining point of the engine cases, I can determine how wide the spacer needs to be later.

You can ask to lcerani as he switched a SS900 engine in the paso frame, so he had to machine all the "difference"s between newer and older carters!

I may have to find a way to raise the bike high enough for me to crawl under it. That bottom engine mounting bolt has an open area in the center section, so I really need to be directly under it to make sure I am not skewing the reading any.

I was wondering why you need batteries for your brake calipers and how that would affect being able to get measurements!

I've just been using a small, steel ruler measured in 64th of an inch to get the measurements that I have been using. The frame will flex a little when I tighten the engine bolts, so I'm sure being 1/64" - 1/32" off shouldn't be an issue.

I can wait until next weekend if necessary. I'm not in any huge hurry.

I'm getting closer to being able to install this engine. I tried to fit it into the frame, last night, and I'm still a fraction of an inch off on those bottom two mounting tabs. The Pantah engine has a spacer on the rearmost two mounting points, and I'm trying to let the engine cases stay wide enough to not need spacers, but this is makign it very difficult to try to install. I'm going to do some more trimming and shaping, and if I can't make it go in easier, I may have to trim more on the right sides of the cases and use spacers to make installation a bit easier.....I'm getting closer. I'm hoping this works.

The ST4 engine has different heads on it, as the cams sit lower in them and they are shorter than regular desmoquattro heads. I noticed last night during some trial engine mounting attempts that the horizontal head's belt cover my hit the frame rail.

I'm taking this in baby steps to make sure I don't destroy anything. I hope this works. Wish me luck!

Well, I now understand why engine swaps are not common occurances with the Paso bikes. I'm still working on this engine installation, but it is not as easy as I was hoping.....but still not as difficult as it could be. Here's an update to the Mega Paso Project.
