Fork seals

Anyone replaced fork seals ? I was wondering how to get the old ones out.
Obviously the dust seal lifts off and there is a clip on top of the oil seal that will have to be removed but what is the best way to get the old seal out?.
And the other thing - what air pressure should be in the forks?

Hi,
No air in the forks, I've been told by others on these forums, the valves can be used to bleed air out of forks.
To get seals out use flat bladed long screwdriver, go under the seal lip and lever them out .
I have found that a quick bang on the end of the screwdriver usually flips them out. .You can use a rag or small piece of timber to protect fork leg rim.

before starting to open forks, be sure to be a skilled clockmaker!
Seals are not a standard measure and (in Italy!) they are available in the factory

Be very careful ! I did exactly this and broke out an edge of the fork housing some time ago. Luckily I found an excellent welder. My dealer heats up the outside of the fork housing with a heat gun (of course being careful not to burn off the paint) and then the seal lifts out with a screwdriver very easily. Since the little accident I`ve done it the same way and it worked perfectly.

Rebuilding the forks if you dissasemble them completely is not that difficult. Just remember to stick the fork slider tube into the fork leg before you press in the new seal as otherwise you could damage it.
Not sure how "standard size" is defined but I`ve seen the selas listed in numeruos catalgues of bike parts shops. The size is 41,7 55 10/10,5 mm (inner diameter, outer diameter, height/height of seal lip). If you cannot find these there`re also 41,7 55 8/10,5 mm which should work fine also.
