New to the board and new to a 1988 blue Paso 750. Starting issues right now, not idling with choke off. I'm thoroughly cleaning the carbs, fuel line, & filter at the petcock. Should be good at that point.

It does have black Yoshimura pipes on it so I'm wondering if it either already is rejetted or needs to be. The bike has the Mikuni setup. Anyone have a 750 with yoshi's on? Jetting advice for PNW?
Sources for timing belts?

Been reading this site several days before acquiring the bike. Very nice and helpful. The FAQs are great!

The belts are a standard automotive part, widely available.

Just realized the hoses to the oil coolers are, um..let's say, shot. I really hope there is an alternative for that one.

Just pull the coolers and lines and take them to a hose shop. They can make new lines for you for about $60 and you'll be good to go.

The belts are easy to change and available for the local Duc dealer.

Poor starting or idle can be electrical with very low voltage to the coils. There's a wiring upgrade that you can do.

be sure you get the right belts as some Ducatis use round and some square teeth belts. Check your belt pulleys if you`re not sure.
Regarding the jetting, you`ll find infos about the standard jetting of the 750SS in the FAQs. So you can check if the jetting is original or not.
This jetting is not the ideal for the Paso but it works. Not all aftermarket cans need rejetting of the carbs. There`re numerous on the market that don`t have any power gain, are even worse than original cans and just make more noise.
Others require rejetting or otherwise you`ll notice a high speed loss and lean stuttering at higher speeds. Both normally don`t really impact idling though. So as Jon said it`s probably electrics.

I think my local dealer is in Salem...part request sent.
I plan on checking to see if the wiring upgrade has been done today, if it hasnt I'll be doing it right away.

I'm a fairly new paso owner (88 limited) mine has mikunis on it and it didnt idle well when I got it and it wasnt happy without choke although it would eventually warm up and run OK. before I could get around to jetting and or carb issues I bought and installed a set of Cobra F1s and now it runs great, I dont even use the choke to start and now it will idle down to a proper RPM, I am in phoenix so its pretty warm here, anyway the point being it wasnt jetted right for stock pipes but was spot on for the F1s, you gotta love being a little lucky every now and then. the mikunis were off of a later 906 or 907 (whatever) and they were probably a little fat in stock form for the stock pipes on the 750, the guy I bought the bike from probably never got around to rejetting the pipes. good luck John

I'm just trying to catch up with my Paso Idol......and basically rebuilding a Paso through this site the last two years didn't hurt with the post count.

The oil cooler hoses were severely cracking. Replaced them this weekend for a total of $10 in materials from a local outfit that sells hoses, rubber, and many other useful items.

Took a permanent marker and marked and numbered the positions of the hardware and hoses. Cut off the bell of metal over the ends with a dremel cut off wheel. Got the rubber off. Ran it all down to the supplier where they cut the new hose to exact length and gave me the crimp type clamps. Could have them do it all there, but I decided to save the $60-$70.

if you cut your original hoses can you confirm that the hoses are multilayer ?
I heard from mechanics that some cracking is totally normal and not an issue as the hoses are made of several layers of material. I`ve never seen how the hoses were made inside. Can you make a picture ?

Of course, it's the least I could do





You know, they probably could have been fine but I wanted to know rather than have a blowout all over my tire in the rain. They were pretty tough. They looked like hell though.

Next before I go anywhere on the bike I'm going to fix my latest paranoia. The belts.
