Control circuit to fuel pump relay

Post by 93IE »

I have a 93 907 that I just purchased yesterday. No power to fuel pump relay coil. Traced back to terminal 20 on ecu and have continuity. Is this an ecu problem or switch somewhere else on the bike keeping it off?

Forget looking at the ECU

Try this first.

Empty your tank of most of it's fuel (it is more convenient this way).
Remove it from the frame.
Now check the wires that you had to unclip from the female lugs on the base of the tank where the base plate is.
Regardless of how good they look re place with new connectors.
Now follow the leads along the loom until you come to the next connector again inspect and check for corrosion on the the wire connection pins inside.
If there is any loose wires here or bad corrosion you may need to dump the whole connector and replace with new.
Going back to the tank check the connecting lugs and make sure they are riveted tight into the base plate.

Re connect and I am confident that you may resolve your fuel pumps inactivity problem.

I cleaned up all the electrical connections and powered the relays at the front of the bike.
Got power to the fuel pump, but the pump appears to be locked up. I removed it from the tank and found the strainer to be almost non existant. I removed the filter, and could not blow through it. Cut it in half and found it varnished shut. I suppose a pump is non existant.

Is there an alternative? I do appreciate the advice.

I went through the forum and found the post on the NAPA fuel pump. I'll try to locate one tomorrow.

This site has got to be the greatest for info and help.

Bosch make an interchangeable pump that is half the price of the old OEM duc.

you can try spinning the pump rotor with your finger-tip or a plastic screw-driver..it might kick in...

soz it's gonna probabaly end up using your cash - let us know what you get set sorted if you repalace new it's always useful to find other sources for parts as replacements, current costs etc. there are quite a few threads on here for pumps etc.

Also check a few German Ducati Dealer sites as they seem to pop up with a few hidden gems in their stock caches now and then. I often wonder if they may of purchased all the old stock?

Just purchased a replacement Bosche for my 92 907 which was made for the BMW K model. Euro Motoelectrics 303-526-0901. The pump and filter was 239.00 delivered to NJ. Very quick service.
Good Luck

Gary,
Thanks for the posting. The pump and screen look to be exact replacements. I wonder if the Bosch fuel pressure regulator they have listed would replace the Weber?

found this on a BMW K Series owners site is this also the part?

The BMW fuel pump is a Bosch unit.
BMW Part Number: 16-12-1-461 576
List price as of above date: $248
Bosch Part Number: 0 580 463 999

Substitute Part:
Bill Z. identified an immersible electric fuel pump that, while not nearly as large as the stock, Bosch unit, will perform satisfactorily. His installation has 100,000 miles on it. Others, including Rick Landi have done the same installation. Rick's bike has 30,000 miles since this replacement as of this writing. I just completed the same project six days ago and now have 600 miles on the bike with no problems.

NAPA Part Number: 2P74095 Price: $66.94
Advance Auto Part Number: E-2042 Price: $80.74

I examined both above units. They are virtually identical.

Also used to fabricate mount shims: NAPA gas neck hose
NAPA Part Number: 1030
Price: $7 per foot
