wrath of the gods
It seemed the stars had aligned for this one October night. The boss had relented and closed up shop, amazing considering there was still daylight to be had.Mid October after a week of nor easter here in the foothills of eastern pennsylvania and the temperature still hovered near 60. Trash was placed in its curbside venue. Honey-do list completed faithfully. Just a hint of hickory and oak in the air from a few nearby woodstoves. Roads dry and clear of the timely burden of fall plumage from trees nearing the winter sleep. Seemed like a perfectly good night to hop on the Paso and see what adventure can be found for two old horses not quit ready for the pasture. Grabbed the keys and headed for the garage. Backed the Paso out into the drive, blipped the thottle twice wound up the choke turned the key and hit the start. Fired right up and settled at its usual 3 grand never missing a beat.Few seconds ticked by as it rose slowly to 3500. Back off the choke a notch to bring it back to 3000 and let it settle in.30 seconds later close the choke and she settles in at its even idle with just a hint of bumpitybump . He he, a few quick twist of the thottle for the neighbors poodle and head inside for helmet gloves and jacket. What? what was that? a stutter? As I grabbed my gloves and helmet. Thought I tightend those darn battery leads yesterday. Oh well Its a good night for a ride so I can deal with them later. Dawn my helmet and stretch into my gloves. Throw a leg over kick up the side stand point to the street, snick the lever up into first and she dies. Not stalls not stumbles, everything electrical just quits. Just like that.Guess I will be checking that battery lead sooner than later. Go to turn the key off and it doesnt budge.Whats this? Seems the gods of Ducati have decided to smite me once more to test my faith. Yup, reach down to check the bottom of the switch and nothing but heat. Now where was that bit G wrote on rebuilding the ignition switch?

Re: wrath of the gods
probably. I put my relays on a small carbon board below the instrument panel.
They fit quite well there.

Re: wrath of the gods
You could always do what a buddy of mine did when he lost his only key to his Buell....he rigged up a toggle switch. It even has a little LED light in the switch to show when it is turned on.higgy wrote:Go to turn the key off and it doesnt budge.Whats this? I told him that if he plans on keeping it that way, he should put a toggle switch to kill the power to the coils to prevent anyone from just taking off on his bike.

Re: wrath of the gods
Not to worry I have plenty of spares. Most likely it is just the switch and not the lock anyway.

Re: wrath of the gods
Could be just power into ignition switch.
Wear & tear, bad connection.
Been there, done that...

Re: wrath of the gods
Took the donor switch apart last night, It is a little different than previous pics. I will post details over the weekend after I have had time to pull off the bad switch.
Maybe we can have a 906 switch repair guide. Depending on what I find I can add a section on re keying as well
