CONTI MUFFLERS

Post by gail »

WOW! Conti mufflers , who has em and who dont.
Bid on some... and won ,( sorrry Jaffa!!!!)
Once again....these things i are not a straight forward fit.
Brake lever and swing arm clearance are major issues.
Twice again ,,,These are not a perfect fit and forget item!!!!
Is there some poor chap who has experience with the fitting of these Italian noise givers.
The best I have come up with so far is ; Space out the footpeg hangers 18mm and connect to the normal side hanger. The Staintune clamp is minimally too large but have overcome this with beer can shimming
( ie: drink..beer ,cut up can , drink beer , cut up can...... etc..., Fit to Conti, (around inner clamp) Drink beer, etc.
I have almost got one side fitted now!!! But had to go and get more beer!!
The space required to allow free clearance of the brake lever lower part is hideous. I will have to punch an indent into the pipe at the exit of manifold lower ,to allow clearance.
Does anyone know of any of these issues and how they have ovecome them?
Are there any issues with the increase free flow of Conti mufflers. as they are a lot more open than anything comparable.( and I have'n t even started it yet!!!!) But more beer can shiimming is immenent !!
Any info on secret Conti fitting will be greatly appreciated,,,,,,,,,,,
Regards ,,Marty

Ha!!!! Good onya Marty. Glad its you and not me....that would frustrate the hell out of me I'm afraid.

I would have been happy to have them at the starting price though, my Termi's will do in the mean time.

Just got back from a quick run up the coast to the Nabiac M/C museum. Spent a couple of nights in Forster, very tropical, then back down home through the ranges via Putty, by the time I got back to Canberra, it was pissing down. Heaps of bikes on the roads now, plenty of Dukes of all sorts....though only one 907....mine. Always draws plenty of looks and admiration.

No problems with the bike as usual, gotta be the best tourer every produced by Ducati I think. I will never give up this bike.

Good luck with the job mate...unfortunately, we were on stubbies all weekend so cant help out with the chims.

I quess same, but it can also be that he means those long "trumpet style" Contis from MHR, as they need mods to fit. I had to made short "s" shape extra tubes between header outputs and pipe inputs for those MHR Contis for my Paso 750. I am now speaking ab. MHR Contis, not Contis to Pasos. :)

Hi again ,the mufflers are the composite type, chrome wth round brushed aluminium muffler , similar look to staintune. With a bit of work they can be fitted, but hope to be as secure as possible. This is to fit to 92 907.
Finnpaso , I had thoughts of the same additional tubes to give swingarm clearance, the spacers that I made to extend rear footrest/ exhaust hangers are 18mm alloy plate with extra length bolts and fit between frame and footrest plate, the only other issue of the brake lever contacting the muffler, may have to hammer depression into area to allow clearance , but reluctant to do this yet. as it seems a bit harsh.
Jaffa . sounds like you had a good ride , the Bike museum at Nabiac is pretty special and they have a good Ducati section , but no Paso, yet.
Will be doing the summer tour to Adelaide in March , bringing wifey along on her Piaggio MP3 and will be doing the Grampians and G.O.R.. Port Fairy and around the goldfields districts, something to look forward to.
Thanks for the help...Marty
