Hi to all,
Thanks for the insights, how can I identify if I have the factory performance upgrades on my bike?
Thanks, Vince

Re: Factory Performance Upgrades
first step would be the numbers stamped into the mufflers, next would be what carb/s you have

There's no problem so bad that a little fixing can't make it worse! : )

Re: Factory Performance Upgrades
Uprating kit consisted of.... 1 040 horizontal pipe - 0370.84.023, 1 040 Vertical pipe - 0370.84.033, RH muffler 573 1 003 1A, LH muffler 574 1 003 1A, 36 degree advance flywheel 0370.46.470, 2 main jets, 2 air corrector jets, and a new gasket for the flywheel side cover.
That kit was a later release... August of 1988 and was dealer installed.
You will know if you have the mufflers as the outlet is quite a bit bigger than the stock ones.
If you mean the few factory equipped ones that were brought in for AMA homg. rules well that's a different story that is a bit fuzzy. Best I can tell they were all Red there were 50 labeled as limited, but maybe only 25 or less really were, the rest were just the stickers. Of those that were the real thing it's a bit of a mystery as to what was really done internally to them from the factory.... higher compression, bigger valves, heads ported and polished? I've heard different versions but nothing ever definitive....
I do have a set of heads on the shelf in the garage sitting in a box that may have came off of one of those but have not ever gotten around to taking any measurements but the valves do appear to be bigger on them.

Re: Factory Performance Upgrades
Moreover, in the 80's there was not the idea of "standard production" and any single lot might be quite different from others:21783mike wrote:but as all things Ducati there are always a few oddball one offs floating around that were never documented very well by the factory... and I think Cagiva was real bad about record keeping..
components installed, fitting, tuning handwork and so on.
have a nice ride, Nicola

Re: Factory Performance Upgrades
Hi,
I definitely have the exhaust system, per your supplied part numbers! Thanks!
Assuming that I have the performance upgrades, what is the difference in hp vs the stock model?
Thanks to all, Vince

Allows for 6-8 additional MPH.... dunno how that translates into hp but apparently it helps in the upper range and allows for a few more RPM. My guess would be around 5 hp based on the claimed rating of 72.5 x ~5%
