916 Swingarm Swap?

Hey Guys,
I have a ton of extra 916 parts laying around from a build I've been working on, and I got to thinking: Could I swap my spare 916 suspension to may paso?

Do any of you know the nature of the swingarm mounting and whether or not it could be modded to fit? Eye to eye legnth on the stock marzocchi shock?

Let me know if my dream of making my favorite bike handle like my second favorite bike could come true!

this was an engine with a 916 swingarm on ebay years ago, so it`s possible. The question is then what to do with the shock and the rear header...




this is a Honda RC36 swingarm. It looks too long (forget about that exhaust and seat )

I am not too sure that the SBK swingarm is any wider at the case mounting point than the Paso's, but I am not home to be able to measure them. I do know that the rear suspension is quite different, so there are some concerns about how the suspension will connect between the frame and swingarm. You may have to modify the frame for the SBK suspension.....which would be cool because the components and shocks are MUCH more readily available and of better quality than the Paso shocks...

IIRC, the engine cases have about the same width for the swingarm mounting bosses between the Paso and SBK engines, so the swingarm may fit the Pantah, but.......the bearings are in the swingarm for the Paso and they are in the engine case for the SBK, so you will need to do something about swingarm bearings, and......the swingarm pivot is different in diameter and design between the two. If you use the SBK swingarm pivot, you will probably need to swing the Pantah engine down to install the swingarm and you may need to have the ends of the SBK swingarm pivot shaft cut off (and it is hardened steel).

As G mentioned, you will need to do something about the rear header because you cannot go through the swingarm like the original design. This means you will probably need to do a complete custom exhaust for the Paso.

I'm sure there is a bit more that you would have to address......this would not be a simple bolt-on modification.

Hi all,
I have tried on mine 907 but the result has been completely negative!!!

1) The swingarm of the 916 it is the much shortest than the swingarm of the Paso...(big problem)
2) To mount the original shock on the 916 swingarm must a big hole...(bad work)
3) The 916 swingarm is the much widest one in the rear set zone...(big problem)

I have abandoned the idea...

Disregard this incorrect information on the swingarm bearings. I'm a moron and was thinking about the ST2/ST4 swingarm and engine case arrangement for some reason. The SSSA SBK has the bearings in the swingarm just like the Paso. Sorry.....I tinker on far too many bikes these days.
