wrong spark

hi im new to this forum i have an 88 750 paso had it for a couple of years and have had no truble.
hadent started the old girl in a couple of weeks and it wont fire but when i switched the ignition of it back fired. so investigated a bit futher and found that it only sparks when the ignition is switched on or off not when it is turning over any suggestions would be greatful. cant wait to ride it again

Sounds like checking the wiring around ignition key/steering lock would be a good place to start.

make sure you have power to both the ECU and the coils , tho it would seem coils are getting power , and you wouldnt be the first person to spend ages trying to start a bike with the kill switch off ( that never happened to me )
